Our golden city of Mumbai is battling between medieval and modern times. Though we call ourselves a global city, we are weighed down by an inefficient system governed by prehistoric and archaic rules (the BMC Act, 1888). Not just that, Greater Mumbai alone has 17 institutions that duplicate and often work at cross-purposes. There is no single accountable entity that can think and decide for our ci
ty’s growth. Every five years, we resign our hopes to select the ‘least corrupt’ candidate, who when elected becomes part of a self-defeating system. Change the governing rules to create an efficient, accountable system, and
2. Ensure we vote and vote for the right candidate who will serve, not extort. The richest corporation in Asia, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) goes for elections in February 2017. This is our ONLY opportunity in half a decade to lead a trailblazing revolution. A revolution that will help us rebuild the city of our dreams. Free A Billion (FAB) is a people’s movement that aims to revamp India’s operating system by creating a popular demand for new rules. Rules that safeguard personal freedom and lead to growing prosperity for all. Like the clarion call for independence at the August Kranti Maidan, Mumbai, FAB is taking its first step from Mumbai. FAB is a people's initiative that aims to bring together like-minded citizens, professionals and organisations to make this city great again. FAB’s founder, Rajesh Jain, a serial entrepreneur strongly believes that India has no business being poor. Instead of fighting small, incremental battles, it is time we look at a more disruptive approach to shake up slacking governments and disenchanted citizens. We can transform our city only by joining hands and working together.
