Paddy Seed Distribution and Seed Treatment Demonstration for SRI Method by Vikas Sahyog Pratishthan, Mumbai
Tumsar Taluka: With the support of Azim Premji Foundation, Vikas Sahyog Pratishthan, Mumbai organized a paddy seed distribution and seed treatment demonstration program across six villages in Tumsar taluka to promote the SRI (System of Rice Intensification) method of paddy cultivation. Selected farmers were provided with quality paddy seeds, along with live demonstrations of proper seed treatment techniques.
The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure access to quality seeds, educate farmers on proper seed treatment practices, and encourage the adoption of the SRI method to achieve higher yields at lower costs. The SRI method helps in saving water, increasing productivity, and reducing overall cultivation expenses.
During the program, Assistant Agriculture Officers Mr. Avinash Jadhav and Mr. Chetan Wasnik from the Agriculture Department guided the farmers. Representatives from Vikas Sahyog Pratishthan, including Project Director Mr. Rahul Khadse, Program Officer Mr. Mayur Dangre, District Program Officer Mr. Sharad Chakule, and Mr. Sandeep Dhote, were also present.
The initiative has helped farmers gain practical knowledge about the SRI method, and it is expected that more farmers will adopt this technique in the upcoming Kharif season.
At the village level, community facilitators Mr. Nitin Zole, Mr. Aniket Kalekar, Mr. Ravi Thakre, Mrs. Sadhana Wankhede, Mrs. Seema Gaupale, and Mr. Liladhar Bawne are actively supporting the promotion of improved paddy cultivation practices.
“Access to quality seeds, proper seed treatment, and the adoption of SRI techniques will certainly help increase farmers’ productivity and income,” was expressed during the program.
