Garlands of hand-spun yarn.
"It is devoutly to be wished that organizers will wean people from presenting me with garlands of flowers. If garlands must be presented, they should be of charkha-spun, even, strong and fine yarn, which can be used without difficulty for weaving purposes... The hard stems of yellow flowers, when they are thrown from a distance, are calculated to break eye-glasses and injure the eyes. My eyes have, more than once, narrowly escaped damage from these stems." - Mahatma Gandhi.

Remembering Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary today.
Following note was written by Gandhji before Tilak's death.
"The hearts of hundreds of thousands of Indians flutter with anxiety at the sad news that Lokamanya's illness has taken a serious turn. His contribution to the national awakening, his fearless spirit of independence and his sacrifices have made him the idol of the people.Swaraj for this country is the mission of his life....May God help him to recover, grant him a long life and make him a witness to the attainment of swaraj"

🎤 The Power of Words. The Strength of Gandhian Thought.

The English Elocution Competition, held on 30 July 2026 at Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya, was another inspiring event under the Gandhi Jayanti Competitions 2026, jointly organised by Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mumbai and Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya.

214 students eloquently shared their thoughts on Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of truth, nonviolence, peace, justice, and service. Their confidence, clarity, and conviction reflected how Gandhian values continue to inspire today's generation.

The enthusiastic participation and the packed venue made the competition a vibrant celebration of public speaking, critical thinking, and responsible citizenship.

Heartiest congratulations to all the participants, teachers, and schools for making the event a memorable success.
