Late Post | International Day of Sign Languages 🤟

The celebrations may have been around 23rd September, but the message of inclusion deserves to be shared well beyond a single day.
As part of the observance of the International Day of Sign Languages, Cheshire Homes India - Mumbai conducted interactive sessions on Indian Sign Language (ISL) for their employees, across 23rd–25th September at Hilton Mumbai International Airport , Lemon Tree Hotels (LTP), Mumbai, and Apraava Energy, Mumbai. Thanking each of them for very forthcoming and being proactive.

The sessions introduced participants to the world of sign language through engaging, interactive activities. The enthusiasm, curiosity and participation of the employees made each session both enjoyable and meaningful.
Beyond learning a few signs, these interactions are about building bridges of communication, creating awareness and fostering workplaces where everyone feels seen, heard and included.

At Cheshire Homes India, Mumbai, we remain committed to catalysing the creation of a fair and just society with a level playing field for everyone—irrespective of age, gender or disability.
Because inclusion begins when we make the effort to understand—and sometimes, that understanding begins without words. 🤟

Remembering Our Founder, Group Captain Leonard Cheshire, VC, DSO, OBE — on his 109th Birth Anniversary
Today, on the 109th birth anniversary of our Founder, Group Captain Leonard Cheshire, VC, DSO, OBE, we remember with deep gratitude and admiration a visionary who was truly ahead of his time.
We remain indebted to this remarkable humanitarian, whose international journey in disability care and rehabilitation began in Mumbai (then Bombay) with the establishment of Cheshire Homes India–Mumbai in 1955.
From these humble beginnings, his vision inspired and encouraged countless well-meaning individuals, philanthropists and organisations across the world. His pioneering work went on to inspire the establishment of more than 250 Cheshire Homes across 54 countries, creating a lasting legacy of dignity, compassion, inclusion and service to people with disabilities.
As we remember this extraordinary visionary today, we are reminded that many of the principles he spoke about remain as relevant as ever. His belief in people, purpose and collective action continues to guide us.

Event -2 : “Celebrating Success”

Role Model With Disabilities, Employers (Company Representatives) of Persons with Disabilities and Aspiring Youth with Disabilities that Cheshire Homes India-Mumbai works with closely, came together to share their perspectives, successes, challenges, and ways they overcame individual and collective challenges, physical limitations, attitudinal and in their endeavours. While things aren’t easy, nevertheless organisations today come to realise the need to tap this untapped and undermined Human Resource i.e. Persons with Disabilities.

On 4th December 2025, We had the Orthopedic Disability Screening and Assessment camp at Cheshire Home. Heartfelt Thanks to Dr. Mandar Agashe, renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeon of Agashe Hospital , for his pro bono services for the camp.

Event : Solidarity March for Disability Awareness

On 3rd December 2025, We organised a Solidarity March for Disability Awareness starting from Tolani college of commerce to the Cheshire Home Grounds, in East,

Heartfelt Thanks to the Management of Tolani College of Commerce for permitting the use of their premises for an interactive session and assembly of the Solidarity March participants which included Persons with Disabilities, their families, volunteers, students, well wishers and staff of Cheshire Homes India, Mumbai.

Our Heartfelt Thanks to the Sr, Inspector Incharge of Police Station, Mumbai police for the and management to facilitate the event without inconveniencing the motorists and pedestrians.

Each Day we had event/s that brought out the Best in Children and Adults with Disabilities, their , binding over fun games, sports, fancy dress, sessions, March, Drum session, disability camp, sketching and art contest, rangoli contest to eventually culminate with a Cultural Evening on 6th December 2025.

On 1st December 2025, we had an Inaugural Event followed by Games for the Children with Disabilities.
