Being a pioneer isn't just about walking a new path—it’s about building a bridge so others can walk it too.

At HKIDB, our core mission is simple yet powerful: reach out to individuals with Multiple Disabilities including Deafblindness and guide them out of isolation into vibrant, inclusive lives. True quality of life starts when every individual is seen, heard and valued.

How do we turn this vision into reality? By empowering the incredible people on the frontlines.

We recently wrapped up a transformative three-day intensive training program, hosting 6 dedicated professionals from Chetana (a Sense-supported project in Kolhapur) and 4 passionate team members from Perkins-supported programs in Uttar Pradesh.

Over three hands-on days, these leaders deepened their knowledge, sharpened their practical skills and gained new perspectives on sensory impairment. By investing in these 10 inspiring special educators and social workers, we aren't just training individuals—we are enriching entire communities.

Together, we are creating a world where no person with Deafblindness is left behind.

Small Peels, Big Impact!

Learning at HKIDB doesn't just happen at a desk—it happens by getting our hands dirty!

As part of our World Around Us curriculum, our amazing Academic Group students turned kitchen veggie peels into rich compost! Through this hands-on fun, they learned how easy it is to recycle organic waste, care for the planet and live sustainably.

We believe experiential learning is the ultimate game-changer. When our students actively jump into real-life activities, they:
* Build real-world life skills & confidence
* Deepen their understanding of the world
* Nurture a true sense of environmental responsibility

These powerful experiences foster holistic growth, giving our kids the knowledge and independence to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their peers everywhere.

We are proud to announce the inauguration of the Sign Language Training Programme—a collaborative initiative between the State Bank of India (SBI), Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities, and Helen Keller Institute for Deaf & Deafblind (HKIDB).

The programme was formally inaugurated by Shri Satyabrata Mahapatra, Chief General Manager & Head (STU), SBI. In his inspiring address, he motivated frontline teams to become true champions of inclusion, emphasizing that genuine connection relies on open communication, and that true trust in banking is built when every single customer feels heard, understood, and respected.

By equipping frontline staff with essential sign language skills, SBI is taking a transformative step towards making banking accessible, dignified, and welcoming for persons with Hearing Impairment.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Shri Satyabrata Mahapatra, Mr. Mayank Goyal, and Ms. Smaranika Mohanty for their visionary leadership, guidance, and unwavering support from the very inception of this project. Their dedication made turning this vision into reality possible.

Together, we aren't just teaching a language—we are opening doors, building trust, and shaping a truly inclusive financial ecosystem, one conversation at a time.

International Day of Deafblindness: Legacy, Dedication, and the Bond of a Lifetime

As we approach the culmination of our International Day of Deafblindness celebrations, today on the Birth Anniversary of Late Dr. Helen Keller, we reflect on the powerful legacies that built the foundation of our work.

Dr. Helen Keller’s life stands as an eternal beacon of hope, proving that the human spirit recognizes no boundaries. On her birth anniversary, we celebrate the enduring light she brought into the world—a light that continues to guide our mission every single day. The beautiful, history-making bond between Dr. Helen Keller and her teacher Anne Sullivan is known worldwide—a testament to how dedicated mentorship can unlock an entire world of potential.

Here at our institute, we have our very own legendary story of empowerment that beautifully mirrors that iconic bond.
We fondly remember our Founder Director, Late Mrs. Beroz Vacha, who was truly the Anne Sullivan of our school. With her fierce dedication, boundless empathy, and pioneering spirit, she dedicated her life to breaking the walls of silence and darkness for so many children.

And just as Anne Sullivan found her Helen Keller, Mrs. Vacha shared a profound journey with Mary, who is the living Helen Keller of Helen Keller Institute for Deaf & Deafblind. Mary’s incredible resilience, intellect, and ongoing achievements continue to break barriers today, showing the world that with the right support, determination, and love, there are absolutely no limits to what an individual with Deafblindness can achieve.

Today, we honour Mrs. Beroz Vacha's lasting legacy, celebrate Mary and salute the timeless spirit of Dr. Helen Keller. They proved that connection, communication, and education can triumph over any challenge. As their torchbearers, we move forward with that same belief every single day: We Too Shall Conquer.

International Day of Deafblindness – Day 5: Telling Helen Keller’s Story Through Dance

For our fifth day of celebrations, we are thrilled to share an extraordinary milestone that brought the story of Dr. Helen Keller to life in the most vibrant way!

Our talented students with Hearing Impairment and Deafblindness took to the stage to perform a beautiful dance drama depicting the inspiring life journey of Helen Keller.

Through rhythm and immense dedication, they didn't just perform—they completely captivated everyone. We are incredibly proud to share that their performance won First Place in the Differently Abled Category at the prestigious Create Foundation Competition back in January.

This victory is a testament to the fact that talent, expression and passion know no boundaries. When given the stage, our students don't just participate—they conquer!

A huge congratulations to our amazing stars and the dedicated team who helped orchestrate this award-winning performance!
