🌍 Global Workers’ Academy on Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development

🎯 Purpose of the Programme:
Organized by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO), Turin, Italy, this global training and study programme aimed to empower trade unions, their leaders, and activists to strengthen policy coherence for achieving sustainable development.
📅 Programme Structure:
In-person Training (Turin): 20 – 24 October 2025

🎯 Main Objectives:
1. Deepen understanding of Policy Coherence – ensuring that social, economic, and employment policies are interconnected to achieve sustainable development.
2. Enhance trade union participation – ensuring that workers’ perspectives are integrated into national and international policy processes such as Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs).
3. Integrate “Decent Work” and “Just Transition” concepts into the Sustainable Development Agenda.
4. Promote international collaboration and networking to strengthen global solidarity among workers’ movements.
📘 Focus Areas:
In-depth study of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and their interlinkages.
Use of Policy Coherence Tools for better coordination and policy analysis.
Understanding the role of trade unions at national and international levels – engaging effectively with governments, employers, and international organizations.
Development of Action Plans to address specific challenges in participants’ own countries or organizations.

The Global Workers’ Academy on Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development, organized by the ITCILO (International Training Centre of the ILO), brought together representatives from 27 countries across the world.
The discussions covered global perspectives on labour laws, minimum wages, women’s rights and protection, and the Decent Work Agenda.
India was represented by Mr. Mukesh Tigote, National Secretary of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), who presented insights on India’s labour law reforms and the role of government in promoting workers’ rights and sustainable growth.
