Khula Aasman brings the experience of creativity to the people excluded from the mainstream. Though India has a very respectable heritage of arts and craft, most of it only remains for commercial purpose and more and more in the hands of the elite. Whereas, there are many on the periphery, who in-spite of having the potential of creative beings do not get an opportunity. Displacement and frequent
relocation leaves no time and opportunity to explore the more subtle sides of human nature. We are a part of Global Play for Peace www.playforpeace.org community. Khula Aasman also runs a 'Play for Peace Mumbai Club'
Khula Aasman believes in generating opportunities of happiness and creating individuals, groups and communities which are more holistic and supportive. Getting involved in art and craft pursuits is not a luxury but a necessity. Art is a great healer, it goes beyond class, religion, caste and gender. In the changing context where there are lots of communities which are artificially created and the traditional systems of communication are broken we need to create alternatives which are beyond religious faith and provide solace to the mind and heart, connecting people based on their innate abilities of positive creativity. We have successfully married various ideas of arts and crafts for the process of change with the people. We have conducted creative sessions with various organizations, open and closed, rural and urban, with very positive results.
