✨🍄 Nature's Hidden Light Show

Tucked away in the damp forests of the Western Ghats, some fungi possess an extraordinary ability—they glow in the dark.

This natural phenomenon, known as bioluminescence, occurs through a chemical reaction that produces a soft green light, turning the forest floor into a magical spectacle after sunset.

While their glow fascinates us, these fungi are far more than a visual wonder. They play a crucial role in forest ecosystems by breaking down dead wood and recycling nutrients, helping keep forests healthy and thriving.

The next time you walk through a forest at night, remember—some of nature's greatest wonders don't roar, fly, or run. They simply glow.

✨ Protect forests. Protect the wonders they hide.

🐍 World Snake Day | Celebrating the Silent Guardians of Our Ecosystems

Snakes are among the most misunderstood animals on our planet. Feared by many, they are, in reality, vital to the health and balance of natural ecosystems.
From the majestic King Cobra, the elusive Khaire's Shieldtail, the beautifully camouflaged Hump-nosed Pit Viper, to the elegant Green Vine Snake—each species has a unique role to play. Together, they help regulate prey populations, maintain ecological balance, and indicate the health of our forests and landscapes.
Unfortunately, habitat loss, road mortality, persecution driven by fear, and illegal wildlife trade continue to threaten many snake species across India.

This World Snake Day, let's replace fear with understanding. Every snake deserves respect, and every encounter is an opportunity to appreciate the incredible diversity of life that shares our planet.
🌿 Protect their habitat. 📚 Learn before you fear. 🤝 Coexist with wildlife.

Because healthy forests need snakes, and healthy ecosystems need every species.
Happy World Snake Day! 🐍💚

World Otter Day 🦦🌿

For us, otters are more than just a species we study — they are indicators of healthy rivers, thriving mangroves, and functioning ecosystems.
Over the years, our work has taken us through mangroves, estuaries, rivers, and remote wetlands across India in search of these elusive mammals.

From documenting Smooth-coated Otters in the coastal mangroves of Maharashtra to currently working on Asian Small-clawed Otters, every field survey has reinforced one thing:
If otters survive, our wetlands survive.

Otters play a crucial ecological role by maintaining aquatic food chains and reflecting the health of freshwater and coastal ecosystems. Yet, habitat destruction, pollution, sand mining, and human disturbance continue to threaten their future.
Conservation is not only about protecting a species — it’s about protecting the landscapes, waterways, and communities connected to them.

This World Otter Day 🦦, let’s celebrate these incredible river guardians and work towards coexistence, awareness, and conservation before silence replaces their splash in our rivers.

🦉🌙 Wilderness Uncovered | Brown Wood Owl & Brown Fish Owl | Arcane Conservancy

As daylight fades and forests fall silent, two of India’s most elusive nocturnal predators begin to emerge — the Brown Wood Owl and the Brown Fish Owl. Masters of stealth and silence, these owls play a critical role in maintaining balance within forest and wetland ecosystems.

In this episode of Wilderness Uncovered, we explore the habitats, behavior, and hidden lives of these remarkable birds of prey, from dense forests to riverine landscapes. Through the lens of field observation and conservation storytelling, this episode sheds light on species that are more often heard than seen.

Silent. Powerful. Mysterious.
The night belongs to them.

🍄🌿 Wilderness Uncovered | Spore-Releasing Bracket Fungi | Arcane Conservancy

Hidden in plain sight on fallen logs and forest floors, bracket fungi are some of nature’s most silent engineers. In this episode of Wilderness Uncovered, we explore the fascinating world of spore-releasing bracket fungi organisms that quietly recycle life back into the ecosystem.

Watch closely, and you’ll witness something extraordinary: when backlit, these fungi release clouds of microscopic spores, revealing a delicate, almost magical spectrum of colors drifting through the air.

Small, often overlooked, yet essential these fungi remind us that even the quietest life forms hold ecosystems together.🍄✨

Not the encounter I expected during an otter survey… but definitely one I won’t forget. 👑🐍

Came across the King Cobra—calm, aware, and completely in control of its forest. Moments like these remind you that the wild always has the final say.
From tracking otters to locking eyes with the king… field days don’t get more real than this. 🦦🌿
