Prevention is Better Than Cure

The Prevention of Blindness Department of National Association for the Blind, India (NAB India), in collaboration with AHAR, successfully organized an Eye Screening Camp on 06th August 2026 at Hotel Bhagat Tarachand ,Near Mumbadevi Temple Kalbadevi Mumbai.

Camp Highlights:
* 199 individuals screened
* 119 persons referred for spectacles
* 6 persons referred to hospital for further treatment

The camp was conducted by Nitin Kamble from NAB India’s Prevention of Blindness Department, with the support of two qualified optometrists.

The initiative focused on early detection of vision problems and timely intervention, helping to prevent avoidable blindness and promote better eye health within the community.

Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla, Chairman Trustee & Honorary Secretary General, NAB India, emphasized the vital role of preventive eye care in reducing avoidable blindness. He highlighted the continuous efforts of NAB India’s Prevention of Blindness Department in reaching communities through eye screening camps, awareness programs, and timely referrals. He further stated that increasing awareness about regular eye examinations and early treatment is essential to safeguard vision and ensure a healthier future for all.

Special Digital Training on AI & Assistive Technologies for Students with Visual Impairment by NAB India, Mumbai
On 4 August 2026, the National Association for the Blind (NAB) India, Mumbai successfully organized a Digital Training Programme on AI and Assistive Technologies for students with visual impairment studying in Classes 9 to 12 at Government Sparsh Boys Inter College, Lucknow. Around 25 students enthusiastically participated in the programme.
The training was conducted by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Soni (ICT Trainer), who provided hands-on training on modern and accessible digital applications such as Google Lookout, Gemini AI, ChatGPT, and Money App. The school's teachers—Ms. Priya Pal, Ms. Priyanshu, Ms. Savita, Ms. Anjali Sahani, and Mr. Shubham—actively supported the students in practicing these applications, making the training highly interactive and effective.
On this occasion, Mr. Shailesh Batulwar, IT Trainer, NAB India, introduced students to the NAB VANI App and EPUB resources, explaining how accessible digital learning materials can support their education and enhance independent learning.
In his inspiring address, Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla, Chairman, Trustee & HSG, NAB India, announced that such online and offline training programmes would be organized regularly and reaffirmed NAB India's commitment to empowering persons with visual impairment through technology and digital inclusion.
Mr. Gopal Krishna Agarwal, Honorary Secretary, NAB India, encouraged all the students to make the best use of these learning opportunities and wished them success in education, technology, and every aspect of their lives.

नेशनल एसोसिएशन फॉर द ब्लाइंड इंडिया मुंबई के द्वारा दृष्टिबाधित विद्यार्थियों के लिए AI एवं सहायक तकनीकों पर विशेष डिजिटल प्रशिक्षण
4 अगस्त 2026 को राजकीय स्पर्श बालक इंटर कॉलेज, लखनऊ में कक्षा 9वीं से 12वीं के दृष्टिबाधित छात्रों के लिए AI एवं Assistive Technology आधारित डिजिटल प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम का सफल आयोजन किया गया। इस प्रशिक्षण में लगभग 25 विद्यार्थियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक सहभागिता की।
प्रशिक्षण का संचालन श्री राकेश कुमार सोनी (ICT Trainer) द्वारा किया गया, जिसमें विद्यार्थियों को Google Lookout, Gemini AI, ChatGPT एवं Money App जैसे आधुनिक एवं उपयोगी डिजिटल एप्लिकेशनों का व्यावहारिक प्रशिक्षण प्रदान किया गया। विद्यालय के शिक्षक एवं शिक्षिकाएँ सुश्री प्रिया पाल, सुश्री प्रियांशु, सुश्री सविता, सुश्री अंजलि साहनी एवं श्री शुभम ने विद्यार्थियों के साथ मिलकर विभिन्न ऐप्स का अभ्यास कराया, जिससे प्रशिक्षण और अधिक प्रभावी एवं सहभागितापूर्ण बना।

Empowering Dreams, Investing in the Future: Supporting Educational Access for All
On Saturday, 18th July 2026, the Client Service Department of the National Association for the Blind (NAB) India successfully organized a special School Kit Distribution Programme, supporting 100 school-going children of visually impaired parents from economically weaker backgrounds. The initiative aimed to ensure that every child begins the new academic year with the essential learning materials, confidence, and motivation to pursue their dreams.
Education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and well-wishers, these children are now better equipped to continue their educational journey with hope and determination.

Empowerment through Inclusion: Successful Organization of the SCOR SE Employee Volunteering Programme at NAB India! 🌟

On July 9, 2026, the National Association for the Blind (NAB) India – Department of Rehabilitation successfully organized the SCOR SE Employee Volunteering Programme at our NAB India, Worli Sea Face Centre. Around 60 enthusiastic participants—including SCOR SE employees, rehabilitation beneficiaries, and D.Ed. Special Education (Visual Impairment) trainees—came together for this deeply meaningful initiative.

A Day of Learning and Interaction 🤝

The programme commenced with a warm and gracious welcome by Ms. Pallavi Kadam (Executive Director, NAB India), who introduced everyone to NAB India's core mission, services, and diverse rehabilitation initiatives.
To gain a first-hand experience of our day-to-day work and impact, the volunteers visited various departments across the Worli Centre. The event featured engaging sensory awareness activities, interactive games, and experiential learning sessions. These activities allowed the corporate volunteers to step into the shoes of our beneficiaries, fostering true empathy, inclusion, and a deeper understanding of accessibility.

During the event, Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla (Honorary Secretary General and Chairman Trustee, NAB India) had a detailed and insightful telephonic discussion with Mr. Parag (CEO, SCOR SE). Together, they discussed various ongoing initiatives and openly exchanged thoughts on future challenges and solutions for creating a more accessible and inclusive environment.

Honouring Excellence on Helen Keller Day 2026 🌟

The National Association for the Blind (India), Mumbai proudly celebrated Helen Keller Day by felicitating meritorious visually impaired students who achieved outstanding results in the SSC (Class X) and HSC (Class XII) examinations across various State and National Education Boards.

A total of 122 visually impaired students successfully cleared their Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations this year. Of these, 75 students participated in the felicitation programme, while the remaining students could not attend as they were engaged in academic pursuits and other future assignments.

Held in a hybrid mode, the programme witnessed the participation of students along with their parents, teachers, supporters, and well-wishers from across the country, reaffirming our collective commitment to inclusive education.

We were deeply honoured by the presence of Padma Shri Dr. Tatyarao P. Lahane as the Chief Guest, who applauded the exceptional achievements of the students and appreciated NAB India’s continuous efforts in empowering persons with visual impairment through education. He also encouraged students to draw inspiration from Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla, Honorary Secretary General & Chairman Trustee, for his exemplary leadership and academic accomplishments.

In his presidential address, Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla reiterated NAB India’s commitment to providing quality education, guidance, and opportunities to visually impaired students, enabling them to become confident, independent, and successful members of society.

The event featured presentations by Ms. Vandana Baranwal on the National Inclusive Education Programme and Ms. Ujwala Bhanushali on the achievements of the Mumbai Inclusive Education Programme. Cash prizes and certificates were presented to the top-performing students in recognition of their academic excellence.

The programme was gracefully compered by Ms. Pallavi Kadam, Executive Director, and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Shefali, Senior Special Educator.

Para-Professionals Training Programme Successfully Concluded by the Education Department of NAB India
With the objective of providing quality and inclusive education to children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities, the Education Department of the National Association for the Blind (NAB) India organized an 11-day Full-Time Para-Professionals Training Programme from June 1 to June 11, 2026. The programme aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to understand the educational needs of children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities, promote their holistic development, and provide effective teaching and support within inclusive classroom settings. During the training, participants received comprehensive exposure to a variety of important topics. The session on Early Childhood Education (ECE) focused on child development, learning processes, and age-appropriate teaching methodologies. Under the topic of Early Intervention, participants learned strategies for identifying developmental needs and providing timely support to children.Sessions on the Education of Children with Multiple Disabilities emphasized appropriate teaching approaches, behaviour management techniques, and the creation of inclusive classroom environments for children with diverse disabilities. Through Braille Literacy training, participants gained knowledge of the fundamentals of Braille, reading and writing techniques, and effective methods for working with visually impaired learners. Practical training was provided on the use of the Taylor Frame and Abacus to teach mathematical concepts in a simple and effective manner. In addition, the Orientation and Mobility (O&M) sessions introduced participants to techniques for developing safe travel skills, spatial awareness, direction sense, and independent living skills among visually impaired children. Special emphasis was also placed on the development and effective use of Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs). Participants learned practical methods for designing and adapting educational materials suitable for children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities and integrating them effectively into classroom instruction. A key feature of this 11-day programme was its focus on not only theoretical learning but also hands-on practical demonstrations and participatory activities. These experiences enabled participants to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts and enhanced their ability to apply the acquired skills effectively in their schools and homes. During the valedictory session, Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla, Honorary Secretary General and Chairman Trustee of NAB India, distributed certificates of completion to the participants and encouraged them to continue contributing towards the empowerment and inclusive education of children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities. He also extended his best wishes for their future endeavors. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Gopal Krishna Agarwal, Honorary Secretary, NAB India. During the programme, Mr. Ramakant Satam, Honorary Treasurer; Mrs. Pallavi Kadam, Executive Director; and Mr. Mayank Shekhar, Assistant Director, were specially present and conveyed their best wishes and inspiring messages to the participants. Mrs. Ujwala Bhanushali, Coordinator of the Mumbai Education Programme, successfully coordinated and managed the training with the support of all teachers from the Education Department. The dedication and active involvement of the entire Education Department team played a significant role in making the programme highly effective and successful.
The training programme proved to be highly informative, inspiring, and beneficial for all participants. It significantly enhanced the knowledge, skills, sensitivity, and confidence of teachers and parents. Following the training, participants are better equipped to understand the needs of children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities and to contribute more effectively to their education, rehabilitation, and social inclusion. This initiative further strengthens NAB India’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and ensuring equal opportunities for every child.
