Remembering Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe on his Jayanti. 💙

A legendary writer, folk poet, and social reformer, Anna Bhau Sathe gave voice to the struggles, dignity, and aspirations of Dalits, workers, and marginalized communities through his powerful literature and Shahiri. His writings challenged caste discrimination and injustice and continue to inspire generations in the struggle for equality and social justice.
On his Jayanti, we remember his remarkable contribution to Marathi literature and his lifelong commitment to the dignity of working-class and oppressed people.
We, the Ambedkarite Students’ Association, TISS Mumbai, pay our respectful tribute to Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe on his Jayanti. 💙

Bahishkrut Hitakarini Sabha
20 July | Founded by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (1924)

On 20 July 1924, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar founded the Bahishkrut Hitakarini Sabha, laying the foundation for a movement dedicated to education, equality, self-respect, and social justice for the oppressed and excluded communities.

Guided by the timeless call to "Educate, Agitate, Organize," the Sabha empowered generations to challenge caste discrimination, demand equal rights, and build a more just and democratic society.

As we commemorate its foundation day, let us renew our commitment to the values of the Constitution and continue the struggle for equality, dignity, and human rights.

AMBEDKARITE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION (ASA), TISS Mumbai pays heartfelt tribute to Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj on his Jayanti.

A visionary social reformer and pioneer of social justice, Shahu Ji Maharaj introduced 50% reservation in education and public employment in 1902—the first such policy in modern India. Inspired by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, he made primary education free and compulsory, promoted women's education, challenged Brahminical monopoly in administration and religion, abolished discriminatory practices, and worked tirelessly for the dignity and rights of Bahujans, Dalits, and other marginalized communities. His legacy laid the foundation for an inclusive and democratic India.

On 21–22 March 1920, the historic South Maharashtra Untouchables Conference was held at Mangaon. The conference was presided over by the young Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, while Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj attended as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Shahuji Maharaj declared:

“You have found your saviour in Ambedkar. I am confident that he will break your shackles. Not only that, a time will come when, so whispers my conscience, Ambedkar will shine as a front-rank leader of all India fame and appeal.”
