Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai & the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts in collaboration with the Bombay Local History Society invite you to a curatorial walk-through of the exhibition
Disobedient Subjects, Bombay, 1930-1931

The exhibition takes you on a visual journey around Bombay, today’s Mumbai, to witness the unfolding of the Civil Disobedience Movement against colonial rule in British India’s financial capital from almost a century ago. The curatorial walk-through will be led by Debashree Mukherjee, Associate Professor of film and media studies at Columbia University, who has contributed an essay to Photographing Civil Disobedience, the book which accompanies the exhibition.

Dear BLHS members,

We invite you to explore early studio photography in Bombay (1860–1910) with city historian Murali Ranganathan who will guide us on a walk-through of Carte de Visits and Cabinet Portraits from the Rajan Jayakar Collection on Saturday, December 13th, 2025. You will get to see original nineteenth century photographs, albums and cameras and learn about the history of photography in Bombay.

Join us at 10.45 am at a private residence near Eros Cinema, Churchgate, Mumbai.

Details of the venue will be provided on registration. Please note that prior registration for this session on a fascinating photography collection is important.

We invite you to explore the rich heritage of the Parsis of India through an exclusive guided tour of the F. D. Alpaiwalla Museum on Saturday, 29th November 2025. You will have a chance to view some of the oldest artefacts (about 6,000 years old) on display in Mumbai as well as the chance to see the recreation of the interiors of a Zoroastrian fire temple.

Join us at 10.45 am at the F. D. Alpaiwalla Museum, Khareghat Memorial Building, Khareghat Colony, N. S. Patkar Road, Babulnath, Mumbai.
