A safe home is the foundation for health, dignity and opportunity.

Yet, many families across India continue to live in inadequate housing that leaves them vulnerable to challenges that affect every aspect of their lives.

Through a meaningful partnership between Habitat for Humanity India and Max Estates, 54 families in the Rewari district, Haryana, now have access to safer and more secure homes. Implemented in two phases, the project supported the construction of 29 homes in Aakera village and 25 homes in Bhudla village, helping families build a stronger future.

The initiative demonstrates how a purpose-driven partnership can create lasting change.

Habitat for Humanity India handed over climate-resilient homes to 52 tribal families in Rase village, Pune district, Maharashtra. The handover ceremony was organised by the Pune Zilla Parishad, the district authority which supported this integrated housing initiative under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin.

The Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Smt. Sunetra Pawar graced the occasion and handed over the symbolic keys to the new homeowners. “A home is every person's dream. In times of difficulty, the comfort of returning to one's own home provides strength and hope to carry on. The earlier living conditions of families in Rase were extremely poor. Today, the years of struggle have come to an end for 52 families from the Thakar community, who now have homes of their own,” said the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister in her keynote address and commended Habitat for Humanity India for its work.

Shri. Virdhaval Jagdale, President, Pune Zilla Parishad; Shri Gajanan Patil, CEO, Zilla Parishad Pune; Shri. Babaji Kale, MLA attended the ceremony along with other senior government officials, community leaders and homeowners.

Representing Habitat India were Smt. Sheila Kripalani, Chairperson, Board of Trustees; Mr. Gul Kripalani, Member, IndiaBUILDS Advisory Committee; Mr. Anand K. Bolimera, National Director and other members of the Habitat India team.

The 52 homes in Pune are part of Habitat India’s Green Housing Project, a three-year housing initiative supported by Citi that will help 400 tribal families across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu access safe, dignified and climate-resilient housing.

In the first year of the programme, Habitat India has completed 120 climate-resilient homes across Pune, Palghar and Raigad districts in Maharashtra.

A safe home changes everything.

Every family deserves a place where they can live with safety, dignity and hope.

A home is more than four walls and a roof. It is the foundation for better health, greater security, improved opportunities and a brighter future for generations to come.

Habitat for Humanity India, with support from Samsung C&T, worked alongside 15 families from the Warli tribal community in Palghar district, Maharashtra, to build safe and decent homes. The project also brought improved sanitation to three schools, helping children learn in healthier, safer and more dignified environments.

Together, these interventions are strengthening communities, improving quality of life and creating pathways to a better future.
