Eid Milad un Nabi ﷺ Mubarak with these timeless words of Ṭalaʿa al-Badru ʿAlaynā are traditionally associated with the joyous welcome given to Rasūlullāh ﷺ upon his arrival in Madinah after the Hijrah.
The people of Madinah welcomed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with words of gratitude, joy and obedience:
“Gratitude is incumbent upon us, whenever a caller calls to Allah.”
Then comes the beautiful address:
“O you who have been sent among us,
you came with the command to be obeyed.
You came and honoured Madinah—
welcome, O noblest caller to Allah.”
What makes these verses so powerful is that they capture the joy of Madinah welcoming the Messenger ﷺ — the city that would become his blessed home, the home of revelation, and the place where his blessed resting place remains today.
The account of this welcome is found in the Sīrah and early Islamic historical tradition, with reports attributed to early authorities including al-Bayhaqī. Scholars have discussed the precise occasion of the singing, with the preferred view cited by some scholars being his arrival in Madinah after the Hijrah and today, centuries later, these words continue to be recited in Mawlid-un-Nabi ﷺ, reminding hearts of the joy surrounding the arrival of the greatest Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
