Positive & Constructive Meeting with the State GST Commissioner

On 3rd September 2026, the FAM delegation had a very positive meeting with Shri Asheesh Sharmaji, State GST Commissioner, Maharashtra, wherein various important issues and hardships faced by the trade were discussed.

We sincerely appreciate him for patiently hearing our concerns and assuring FAM of his full cooperation.

Key points discussed:

• New GST Registration: Regarding tenancy cases, the Commissioner informed us that accepting a notarised agreement instead of a registered agreement is under process and is expected to be announced shortly.

• Genuine Sellers & Buyers: He clarified that a genuine seller should not face tax demand or penalty merely because his buyer is unavailable or his GST registration is cancelled for being identified as an NGBT dealer. He also informed us that State GST has not issued any such notice to any seller in Maharashtra on this ground.

• GST Audit Hardships: The hardships faced by assesses during GST audits, brought to his notice by the Stainless Steel Merchants Association, were discussed. He assured that specific cases supported by proper facts, figures and documents would be looked into.

• E-Way Bill: The issue raised by DISMA regarding transfer of goods without movement was discussed. The Commissioner clarified that an e-way bill is not required where there is no movement of goods. Any contrary action may be brought to his notice with complete details.

We appreciate Shri Asheesh Sharmaji for his positive approach and assurance that genuine assessees should not be unnecessarily troubled.

Members are requested to bring any specific grievance with proper facts, figures and supporting documents, so that the matter can be appropriately addressed.

Minister Directs MIDC Officials to Take Positive Action on Weekly Off Day Issue of Taloja MIDC Industries

A delegation of the Federation of Associations of Maharashtra [FAM] today met Hon’ble Shri Uday Samant Ji, Minister for Industries, Government of Maharashtra at his chamber in Mantralaya, Mumbai.

The delegation presented FAM’s memorandum regarding the hardship faced by iron & steel industries of Kalamboli and Taloja due to the mismatch in weekly off days. Currently, these industrial hubs observe Friday as weekly off, while major consumer hubs like Ranjangaon ,Pune & Other major cities across state have shifted to Sunday. This mismatch results in loss of nearly 10 business days per month for the metal industry.

Hon. Minister Shri Uday Samant Ji patiently heard the delegation, understood the gravity of the issue and its impact on business, employment, and state revenue. Recognizing the importance of the matter, he immediately directed the FAM team to meet Shri Khemnar, IAS, Joint Chief Executive Officer, MIDC along with his PA for further action.

Accordingly, the FAM delegation met Shri Khemnarji, IAS, Jt. CEO, MIDC. He also heard the matter in detail, considered all factors, and assured to give a positive response to the issue shortly.

FAM also requested Hon. Minister to consider formation of a Special Investigation Team [SIT] in Maharashtra, on the lines of Gujarat, to curb fraudulent trade practices and protect the interest of genuine industry and trade.

FAM suggested that the proposed SIT should have a board team comprising senior officers from Police Department , headed by DG/ADG level officer , GST Department - for tax evasion and fake billing rackets. Economic Offences Wing [EOW] for financial frauds and duping of traders/industries & Representatives of Trade Associations to provide ground-level inputs and feedback..

FAM submitted that such an SIT will help in quick investigation, deterrence against economic offenders, and restoring confidence of MSME and trading community.

The meeting concluded on a positive and fruitful note for the business fraternity of Maharashtra.

FAM obliged by Shri Milind Deoraji MP Rajya Sabha, gesture for arranging & accompaning for a meeting with samantji.🇮🇳

FAM thanked Hon. Minister Shri Uday Samant Ji and MIDC officials for their prompt and positive approach towards resolving industry issues.🇮🇳
