Abundance is not the absence of struggle. It is the fruit of it.
Across Assam, Karnataka, and Odisha, the communities at the heart of the climate crisis persevered with the tools and foundations that EdelGive and their partner's work in agriculture, climate and livelihoods provided them with. Slowly, season by season, they became communities that had the confidence to solve their problems through improved farming techniques, climate-sensitive irrigation practices, training, Self-Help Groups and grassroots organisations equipped to provide them with the support and structure they need to flourish.
EdelGive works along with organisations like SeSTA, across 25 districts in Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura, building the capabilities of rural communities since 2019 and collectivising women into Self-Help Groups. Since 2019, their training in scientific organic farming, System of Rice Intensification, livestock rearing, and apiculture have helped communities like Madhupur move from subsistence to self-sufficiency. Today, four SHGs in Madhupur alone have around 50 women engaged in multiple livelihood practices and the women who once worked as labourers are now training their neighbours.
Our work exists to make sure that confidence has an institution behind it. That the grassroots organisations walking alongside communities like these are strong enough, funded enough, and supported enough to sustain what they've built, long after any single season ends.
This is monsoon. This is abundance. And this is what climate resilience looks like when it is built from within.
