My doctor told me hair loss after 40 is "just part of ageing." I refused to accept that...

It didn't happen overnight. First my ponytail got thinner. Then my parting got wider. Then I started seeing scalp in photos I never noticed before.

I spent months trying to fix it — supplements, serums, special shampoos — nothing worked. If anything it got worse.

Then a friend sent me something she'd read. She said her hair had started growing back after she tried what it recommended.

I gave it a go. 10 weeks later my hair is thicker than it's been in years. I keep catching myself touching it because I can't believe it's real.

I'll leave the article in the comments whilst it's still up — wish I'd found it sooner.

At 58 my hairdresser said "there's not much I can work with anymore." I didn't go back for months...

It didn't happen overnight. First my ponytail got thinner. Then my parting got wider. Then I started seeing scalp in photos I never noticed before.

I saw a dermatologist. She looked at my scalp for about ninety seconds and told me it was androgenic alopecia — hereditary, hormonal, progressive. She said there were "management options" but used the word permanent twice. I drove home and sat in the car for twenty minutes before I could go inside.

I tried everything she suggested anyway. The minoxidil first — twice a day, every day, for six months. My scalp became red and flaky. I'd wake up with residue on my pillow. My husband asked if I was okay. I told him it was fine. It wasn't working but I kept going because stopping felt like giving up.

Then a clinic. PRP injections — three sessions. I told myself this would be the one. Eight weeks later I stood under the bathroom light doing the same check I did every morning. Nothing. I cried in the bathroom so my kids wouldn't hear.

I tried the supplements next. A ₹6,000 a month subscription. Collagen powders. Saw palmetto. I had a drawer full of bottles and a parting that kept getting wider.

By 57 I'd accepted it. Bought better hats. Learned which angles to avoid in photos.

Then a friend sent me a link. She said her hair had started coming back when nothing else had worked, and thought I should give it a go.

I almost didn't bother. But I was out of options. So I tried it.

Week 3: Less coming out in the shower. I'd stopped counting strands by then — too depressing — but I noticed.

Week 7: A thin line of new growth along my temples. Wispy, but real. I rang my friend just to tell her.

Week 10: My parting had filled in enough that I stopped doing the careful comb-over I'd been hiding behind for two years.

Week 14: Got my hair done for the first time since that appointment. Same hairdresser. She didn't say anything at first — just ran her hands through it and went quiet. Then: "what have you been doing?"

I keep catching myself touching it because I can't believe it's real.

If you're where I was — tried everything, been dismissed, quietly grieving something you thought was just gone — the link's in the comments. Worth a look.
