“Strengthening India’s Plastics Industry for Global Value Chains & Export Growth”

Dr. Raju Desai, President, Plastindia Foundation (PIF), and Mr. Kailash B. Murarka, Chairman, NEC, PLASTINDIA 2028, met Shri Tejveer Singh, Secretary, Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals (DCPC) in New Delhi on 18 August 2026

The meeting focused on key priorities for strengthening India’s plastics industry and enhancing its global competitiveness, including:

• Strengthening the finished plastics sector to integrate India into Global Value Chains and support the goal of doubling exports by 2047 by evolving "Make in India".

• Possibility of evolving Cluster Development Scheme to enhance competitiveness and infrastructure.

• Addressing the industry’s manpower needs through CIPET centres at major production hubs like Vapi, Rajkot.

• Supporting deemed export pricing for raw materials to improve cost competitiveness of domestic manufacturers.

PIF appreciates the valuable guidance and support extended by Shri Tejveer Singh, Secretary, Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals and looks forward to continued collaboration towards making the Indian plastics industry more competitive, sustainable and globally integrated.

A Stronger Global Push for PLASTINDIA 2028

A delegation led by Dr. Raju Desai, President, Plastindia Foundation, along with Mr. Kailash B. Murarka, Chairman, NEC, PLASTINDIA 2028, Mr. Dhananjay Makharia, CEO & Secretary General, PIF, and Mr. Nabarun Kar, GM – Delhi, PIF, met Shri Jawed Ashraf, IFS (Retd.), Chairman, ITPO, and Shri Premjit Lal, ITS, Executive Director, ITPO, in New Delhi on 17 August 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening international outreach and institutional collaboration for PLASTINDIA 2028.

Key outcomes included:

• ITPO will establish a Trade Promotion Desk to support the international promotion of trade shows.

• Support for an Ambassadors’ Meet to promote PLASTINDIA 2028 across key target nations.

• No major structural changes are planned at the venue, ensuring continuity for the upcoming edition.

The delegation also appreciated the warm hospitality and constructive engagement extended by Shri Jawed Ashraf and the ITPO team.

With stronger institutional support and greater international outreach, PLASTINDIA 2028 is gearing up to take India’s plastics industry to a larger global platform.
