Aastha Parivaar is a community-led health and advocacy organisation addressing the needs of s*x workers and their children across Mumbai and Thane.

Aastha Parivaar is the federation providing financial and administrative support to its 9 registered community based organisations (CBOs) which operate at the field level to enable these different s*x worker populations to voice their needs, address these needs, and increase the capacities of individuals in the s*x worker community. The issues we address include family planning, health, human rights, rapid crisis intervention, legal literacy, literacy, alternative livelihoods, and education for children. The uniqueness, success, and sustainability of our model lies in the empowerment of the community to lead its own interventions. The s*x workers themselves take an active role in leading their community’s development through their own elected governing board and managing committees which are supported by Aastha Parivaar’s secretariat of professionals. We envision a community of s*x workers united, empowered, and healthy. Every day we work towards the goal of our community living with self-respect and dignity, free from discrimination and stigmatisation, and with opportunities for alternative livelihoods for themselves and their children.

The young leaders of Hausla Kishori Manch recently visited for an incredible day of learning and growth. From breaking taboos to breathing new life into old materials, our girls are bringing back powerful insights to their communities.

>Children’s Day Success: Health, Education, and Community! 🚀

> On the occasion of Children’s Day, we were thrilled to host an engaging session with 80 adolescent girls from the Hausla Project. We focused on crucial topics like menstrual hygiene and provided them with sanitary pads to promote their health and confidence.

> We also tackled study stress for students in grades 8 to 12, showing them effective ways to make academics enjoyable through fun quizzes and interactive games!

> A big thank you to the parents and local influencers whose attendance made the event even more impactful and helped us strengthen our community bonds.

Aastha Parivaar was born of FHI 360’s Aastha project, an HIV/AIDS intervention project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s India AIDS Initiative (Avahan) to address the health needs of s*x workers across Mumbai and Thane.
