Yuva Parivartan - Giving Youth A Second Chance
Yuva Parivartan (YP), a 23 years-old project of the Kherwadi Social Welfare Association (KSWA) enhances #livelihoods of school dropouts by equipping them with skills from across 14 different sectors in the economy through livelihood training with over 54 NSDC-approved vocational courses. These #skilltraining courses range from animal husbandry and floriculture in rural regions to fashion designing, tailoring, electrician and computer training courses in urban areas. On their completion, we also help our beneficiaries attain sustainable occupations through our private partnerships wherever possible.
Through our initiative, we have impacted the lives of over 850,000 students, more than 60% of whom are now engaged in some wage-driven or self-sustained profession. Through our 35 established Livelihood Development Centres (LDCs) spread across 18 states including difficult geographies like tribal belts, naxal-infested areas in Chhattisgarh and disturbed areas in Jammu and Kashmir, we continue to serve over 150,000 students every year with our holistic course portfolios. We have also expanded YP to the digital sector with our e-learning app YuvaKaushal, and Kamaai.org, an online job portal created primarily for blue-collar jobs.
In order to expand our outreach in rural areas, we set up over 3000-4000 Rural Mobile Camps every year to take vocational skills courses to rural interiors and tribal belts. With our Integrated #RuralDevelopment Program, we train farmers in improved agricultural practices, water resource management, animal husbandry and women empowerment through Self-Help Group formation. We have also developed a Prison Project in partnership with the Police to help first time offenders regain their rightful place in the society. YP has also come up with an attitude change module, Soch ka Parivartan to address the issues of students dropping out of courses, refusing to take up jobs or leaving jobs within a short period of time.
We aim to reach out to a million students every year in the long run, and are constantly striving to expand our influence.
