“Healthy Is Happy” started in May, 2012 as a single day medical camp for the BTL KharDanda families. When the camp sheets were evaluated, the organizer of the camp felt a need to complete the cases ensuring full treatment, not just physically, but also mentally and socially. The 2nd camp held at the same location in Jan 2013 was organized in a more systematic way of Pre-camp survey, medical camp d
ay and post-camp follow-ups at KEM Hospital. We found that it was not just the bodily infirmities that needed healing but also the socio-cultural beliefs and the emotional trauma that came along with them. Seeing the bad health conditions and the increasing needs of the underprivileged, Dr. Komal Kanitkar, with the help of her fellow medicos formed a team and got “Healthy Is Happy” officially registered as the medical division of “Bigger Than Life” on 28th September,2013. The team consists of 16 Board of Directors along with number of sub-committees under them working together towards a common goal of “Working towards a World Without Weaknesses”. As BTL moves from one location to another, HIH follows the movement as soon as BTL forms a strong bond with the kids and the families. The team works with the help of medical volunteers from colleges throughout the city, not just to diagnose and treat the cases that are found but also to counsel them in a way that their fears and prejudices are wiped off. Healthy Is Happy is also about redefining the doctor-patient relationship that has seen a lot of tampering and criticism from various fields recently. We work to restore the sensitivity and care that this noble profession has been known to have right since it’s inception.
