Waste collection drives in Navkhar Village, Alibaug ♻️🌍

All the dry waste generated from homes, shops, and community spaces is collected by our Sajj Sakhis, who carefully sort it into different categories for responsible recycling and management.

This initiative is a step towards ensuring that no waste ends up in landfills, oceans, or dumped on open land. Slowly but consistently, we are working to make the villages of Alibaug cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.
Every small action today creates a better tomorrow. 🌱

Rotary Club of Bombay Midtown, proud funders of Project Sajj, visited the initiative and spent meaningful time with the Sajj Sakhi’s, interacting with them personally and learning about their journey. They also visited the sorting center and the villages where the Sajj Sakhi’s work tirelessly every day.

Their visit, encouragement, and appreciation deeply motivated the Sajj Sakhi’s to continue this work with the same passion and dedication. ♻️✨

In the streets of Navkhar, Bagdanda, and Morapada in Alibaug, Maharashtra, conversations around waste came alive through a street play 🎭♻️

Project Sajj, a women-led initiative working in dry waste collection, brought this street play to the community to explain the program in a simple, relatable, and engaging way turning an important message into something people could easily understand and connect with.

The street play was performed by , a Navi Mumbai based group that spreads awareness on various social issues through engaging street plays and performances, making important messages more impactful for the community.

Celebration with responsibility 🌿♻️

While Gudi Padwa celebrations brought together thousands in Navkhar village, it was the consistent, behind-the-scenes effort that truly made a difference.

Through Project Sajj, the SHG women of Navkhar and Bagdanda villages are quietly reshaping the way communities celebrate by making sustainability an integral part of traditional festivities.

Their work goes beyond just managing waste. It reflects care for their surroundings, pride in their village, and a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Supported by the community, friends, and families, this initiative shows what is possible when people come together with intention.

Sajj is more than just a project- it’s a readiness to step towards change - caring for what truly matters - community, nature, and sustainability. 💚♻️

We are excited to announce the launch of Project Sajj– a Waste Management initiative in Alibaug, Raigad District. 🌿♻️

The Other Side Studio in collaboration with Ek Saath - The Earth Foundation and Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town, has started this initiative to promote responsible waste segregation, recycling, and cleaner beaches in Navkhar and Bagdanda villages (near Saraal pul, Alibaug)

By joining hands with Nari Shakti Samuh (a local women’s self help group) Project Sajj will
employ and empower local
women to build awareness, undertake on-ground action, and generate sustainable systems to work towards a cleaner local environment and reduce waste along the local coastline and the ocean 🌊♻️

This project is a direct outcome of the fellowship grant-Art for Climate Change received by Rachna Toshniwal in 2023-24.

The objective of Project Sajj is to build women leadership at the intersection of the arts, environment and community-based action.

Reconnection . Restoration . Responsibility

Special thanks to the Aamhi project, Kashid and Rosalind Pereira for their support and inspiration

🔮 The cards have spoken…

Your future is not written in the stars.
It is written in your daily choices.

The bottle you pick today decides the world you wake up to tomorrow.

Choose wisely…
Choose the path that leads to fresher air, cleaner oceans, lighter landfills, and a greener tomorrow 🌿

I see a future filled with balance and renewal…
But only if you make the sustainable choice today.

The future is in your hands ♻️✨
