When we came across the case in Amravati, it felt surprisingly familiar. At Rescue Foundation, we come across situations like these regularly. The patterns are often the same. Manipulation, silence, stigma, and a lack of support when it matters most.
Reading the comments and the wider dialogue online only reinforced why this conversation is important. Once again, a lot of the focus shifted to what the girls should have done differently. Somehow, society always finds a way to place the blame on the victim, instead of asking what support systems were missing and how things could have been prevented earlier.
Cases like this raise bigger questions. Are young people getting the guidance they need? Do they know where to go if something feels wrong? Will they be supported, or judged? When fear of stigma is strong, many hesitate to speak up, and that silence can make situations worse.
It is high time we, as a society, start taking accountability for crimes against women. Not just after they happen, but by building awareness, support, and safer spaces beforehand.
