Thank you TheBetterIndia for featuring our work.

For thousands of girls, periods begin with a warning —
hide it, don’t talk about it, manage somehow.

Dr. Megha Bhargava chose to rewrite that first lesson.

Through Samarpan, she is bringing back cloth — not as a compromise, but as a lab-tested, leak-proof, reusable solution that lasts 2–3 years and comes with one powerful addition: knowledge.

It is in the choice, the safety and the confidence to use it.
The numbers tell their own story:
15,000 girls reached
75 plastic pads kept out of landfills per girl, every year
Fewer rashes. More comfort. More school days.

In her workshops, myths are washed away in sunlight, just like the pads.
Shame turns into science.
And a girl learns that her body is not something to hide — but something to understand.

This is not about cloth vs plastic.
This is about health, sustainability and agency — in the same conversation.

15,000 girls already know the difference.
And they are carrying it forward — with confidence.

Safe water builds futures 💧

For many children, missing school isn’t about a lack of motivation—it’s about falling sick from unsafe water.
When schools have access to clean drinking water, children stay healthier, attend regularly and learn without interruption.

Something as basic as safe water can mean:
• fewer sick days
• better focus
• consistent attendance

Clean water doesn’t just flow through taps.
It flows into classrooms, confidence, and childhoods protected.

Because every child deserves to show up—every school day.

One session. Informed. Confident. Empowered.
Sometimes, that’s all it takes.

When a girl understands what’s happening to her body, fear gives way to clarity.
Shame turns into confidence.
And a monthly struggle becomes something she can manage with dignity.

At Samarpan, our menstrual hygiene awareness sessions go beyond information.
They create safe spaces for questions, conversations and confidence that lasts long after the session ends.

Because when girls are informed, they are empowered—for life.

Girls don’t always leave school suddenly.
Often, they start missing 4–5 days every month—until falling behind feels irreversible.

In rural and tribal India, this pattern is widespread. Over 23 million girls drop out of school every year, with poor menstrual hygiene access playing a critical role.

NFHS data shows that only 58% of women in India use safe menstrual products—and the gap is far wider in remote tribal regions where affordability, access and awareness remain limited.

Sustainable menstrual care addresses this at the root.
Reusable pads and period underwear—designed with medical guidance—offer long-lasting, safe, and affordable solutions suited to real living conditions.

With 10,000 reusable period kits distributed, girls are now managing menstruation without risking their health, dignity, or education.
Progress looks practical.
And it starts with access.

Support sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions that enable girls to stay in school.

46,000+ smiles.
46,000 reasons we haven’t slowed down.

Every smile carries a story—of access, of care, of someone finally being seen.

Progress isn’t perfect, but it’s real. And it’s built quietly, one child at a time.

We keep going because these smiles deserve continuity.

💛 Support the journey. Be part of the change.

Sisters Ruma and Megha Bhargava are driving change through Samarpan, a Mumbai-based organisation working in rural Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to tackle menstrual stigma and school dropouts. By introducing reusable sanitary pads and education-led awareness, they are helping girls manage periods safely and with dignity.

Samarpan has reached 50,000+ children across 250+ government schools, with measurable improvements in school attendance and health outcomes. Their work was recognised with the Forbes India We Serve India Award 2025 for Women-Led Social Innovation.
