The design is inspired by the traditional nomadic tents of Kazakhstan, symbolizing cultural heritage while showcasing modern innovation.

Located in Changsha, China, The Lucky Knot is a pedestrian bridge and public sculpture designed by NEXT Architects. Completed as part of the Meixi Lake Park development, the structure connects different paths across the water while functioning as a landmark within the park.

The bridge is formed as a continuous steel ribbon shaped into an interlaced knot. Project Overview: The Chongqing Science Auditorium’s lighting design gives new life to the massive 324m × 281m × 53.6m architecture. Using hidden LEDs, interactive bits, and nature-inspired ideas, inspired by Chongqing’s “Mountain City” and “Fog City” traits. It has 26,550m of hidden LEDs, 66,546 twinklers, and motion-triggered disks, mixing tech with art.

Innovation: LEDs in tilted façades (8°–12°) fit 5 textures for day-hidden, night-even light. 46 skylight LEDs zap shadows. Floor disks react to touch, blending tech and “time travel” feel. Programmable LEDs make water/fog illusions.

Functionality: By day, lights vanish; by night, they shine without ruining the look. Angled eaves lights evenly cover plazas. Disks guide folk. Hidden lights handle humidity. Façades mimic sun hues.

Creativity: Up-lights boost symmetry like a palace. LEDs mimic river glints. Façades turn light to mist. Golden skylight shines. Disks and gradients make time “touchable”.

Eco-Social Impact: Water/fog themes boost civic pride. Night lights draw crowds. Soft light makes the huge building friendly.

The Whirlpool Weaving Bridge

➕ Designed as a hybrid structural system, the bridge is based on suspension bridge principles to optimize load distribution and structural efficiency. The upper deck is supported by tensile members that carry both self-weight and live loads, reducing bending moments in the superstructure by effectively “lifting” the bridge. Beneath the deck, diagonal auxiliary elements work in compression, allowing upper tensile systems and lower supports to share forces simultaneously.

This dual system improves resistance to both vertical and horizontal loads while clearly defining load paths. Rather than relying on a single structural logic, the project achieves stability, efficiency, and spatial openness through the balanced interaction of tension and compression.

The Ring of Jiaozi Pedestrian Bridge is a futuristic circular skywalk located in the Jiaozi Financial District, Chengdu.

Poly International Plaza by is a landmark office development located in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, positioned within a rapidly growing business corridor. The project draws inspiration from traditional Chinese paper lanterns, translating cultural references into a contemporary high-rise design. The most distinctive feature is its expressive diagrid exoskeleton, which wraps the tower in a faceted, jewel-like geometry that reflects changing light conditions throughout the day.

This outer structural layer also functions as a thermal envelope, improving environmental performance while enclosing a second glazed facade. Between these layers, naturally lit communal spaces are created, encouraging interaction and visual connectivity across floors. The integration of structure, facade, and environmental strategy results in a highly efficient and visually dynamic workplace environment.

𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 | by 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝗴

Studio Gang: At 82 stories, reaching a height of 876 feet, Aqua Tower is one of few tall buildings to create a community on its facade.

Combining a hotel, offices, rental apartments, condominiums, and parking, along with one of Chicago’s largest green roofs, Aqua facilitates strong connections between people and to the city.

The design for Aqua uses architecture to capture and reinterpret the human and outdoor connections that occur more naturally when living closer to the ground. Its distinctive form is achieved by varying the floor slabs across the height of the tower, based on criteria such as views, sunlight, and use.

Strategically sculpting the shape of each floor slab offers comfortable outdoor terraces, where neighbors can casually and comfortably interact when desired, as well as views to Chicago landmarks, navigating sight lines around the corners and through the gaps between existing buildings. The overall design is the cumulative result of responses to specific conditions of density, environment, and use.
