For two months, this patient lived with progressively worsening double vision as his right eye became increasingly prominent and deviated upwards. What appeared to be a squint was, in fact, the result of a complex inflammatory mass involving the eye muscle.

Following detailed imaging, biopsy and evaluation, a customised surgical approach was planned to correct the acquired squint and restore the eye’s movement.
The results were remarkable. His eyes were aligned in the primary position, his double vision was completely resolved, and eye movements were restored in all directions. He could return to everyday activities such as reading and navigating stairs without visual disturbance.

This successful outcome was led by Dr. Nidhi Agarwal, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Neuro-Ophthalmology Service at Shantilal Shanghvi Eye Institute.

In her virtual talk, Dr. Radhika Krishnan explored why eye and vision health deserves a stronger place in mainstream public health conversations and how vision impairment can impact education, productivity, quality of life and equity, particularly in underserved communities.
She highlighted how eye hospitals can go beyond clinical care by engaging with communities through screening, awareness and improved access, while also leveraging technology and AI-assisted screening to bridge the gap between primary healthcare and specialist eye care.
Through the session, Dr. Radhika Krishnan introduced students to the vision and eye health programmes at Shantilal Shanghvi Eye Institute, demonstrating how eye care can contribute to stronger, more accessible and equitable health systems.
