If homeopathy were simply about having one fixed remedy for every chronic disease, then why would a homeopath need to take a detailed case, study the totality of symptoms and do repertory? Two people can have the same diagnosis, yet their symptoms, triggers, sensations, modalities, emotional state, constitution and individual expression of the disease can be completely different. A diagnosis tells us what the disease is called, but it does not necessarily tell us how that disease is expressing itself in that particular person. This is why classical homeopathy focuses on individualisation rather than simply matching a disease name to a remedy. Repertory is not just a list of diseases and medicines—it is a tool that helps the physician organise and analyse the individual’s symptom picture and arrive at the most appropriate remedy based on the case. If it were simply “one disease = one remedy,” there would be no need for repertorisation, case-taking or individualisation. 🌿
