History of the Organization
Late Sunil Dutt founded Nargis Dutt Foundation in 1981 after Nargis Dutt succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer. During her intense treatment at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, Nargis Dutt realized that she was one of the privileged few Indians to be able to receive the treatment, and subsequently, expressed deep sorrow for those who suffered from cancer, yet had little or
no facilities to be treated in India. She hoped that, in future,someday, she could help her fellow-countrymen who were unable to receive the required treatment. Her anguish and feelings became part of Sunil Dutt’s mission in life, and he turned her dream into a reality. Though created with the prime objective of funding and helping patients with timely medical treatment, Nargis Dutt Foundation has diversified, over the years, in various fields like Health Care, Education and Rural Development. Today both DuttSahab and Nargisji live through the works of this esteemed Foundation.
