I really love the way Mani Ratnam stages scenes in his films, and this is one of my favourites.
The silence, the calmness, and the romance in this scene feel so real. The conversation, the breathing, and the deep eye contact make it very special. They have so much to say and so much to hide, and that is my favourite part. The story brings these characters to this moment so beautifully, which makes the scene even more powerful. The location makes the scene even more beautiful, and Santosh Sivan captures it so well. The close shots and the focus on the faces are some of my favourite things in cinema.
This scene feels simple, beautiful, and full of emotion.
