This session was a profound reminder of dignity, capability, and emotional strength.
Our elders engaged in a lively soda can throwing game, improving coordination, depth perception, timing, motor planning, and cognitive-motor integration, while also experiencing joy, confidence, and emotional release.

Meanwhile, one of our visually impaired participants used touch and spatial intelligence to assemble the cans with incredible precision. Her calm focus and determination reflected deep emotional resilience and sensory awareness.

Each tap of the foot and each lyric remembered strengthened long-term memory, auditory recall, body coordination, mood regulation, and emotional expression.

The nostalgia that filled the room created a sense of comfort, emotional grounding, and inner warmth, reminding them of meaningful moments, celebrations, friendships, and loved ones.

Music and movement form a therapeutic bridge between the past and the present, helping reduce stress, improve mood, increase confidence, and promote psychological resilience.

Which song should we make them guess next?

Emotional well-being thrives when people feel engaged, expressive, and connected — and that is exactly what this lively charades activity created for our seniors.
With small chits guiding each action, our elders acted, guessed, laughed, and participated fully. This wasn't just play it was a combination of expressive therapy, cognitive stimulation, and emotional release.

Action-based games strengthen:
• Psychological well-being & emotional expression
• Motor planning & body awareness
• Memory recall & cognitive flexibility
• Attention, observation & problem-solving
• Self-esteem through successful participation
• Social connection & belonging
Many elders suppress emotions or lose confidence over time. But through expressive, movement-based tasks like these, they reconnect with their inner selves rediscovering creativity, humour, and emotional comfort.
This wasn’t just a game of actions it was an exercise in emotional healing, cognitive activation, and group bonding.

Moments like these reveal the true heart of recreational therapy where emotional well-being, memory, and movement come together in the most joyful way.
The instant our in-house DJ recognised the music, he stood up with confidence and began dancing reconnecting not only to the rhythm, but to a deep emotional memory attached to the song.
What looked like a spontaneous dance was actually a powerful blend of music therapy, emotional expression, and motor activation. Music stimulates the brain areas responsible for:
• Emotional release & emotional well-being
• Long-term memory activation
• Motor coordination & balance
• Mood elevation through dopamine
• Self-confidence & agency

For many seniors, music becomes a bridge between the past and present — helping them feel alive, connected, and emotionally safe.
His dancing was more than movement… it was healing. A reminder that joy is therapeutic, connection is medicine, and emotional well-being can be restored through the simplest moments.

Joy has rhythm and sometimes, it bounces. 🏓
Through our table tennis toss, every bounce and every aim became more than a gameit became therapy through motion. This simple, engaging activity enhanced hand-eye coordination, focus, and reflexes while filling the room with laughter and light-hearted competition.

Movement has power it grounds, heals, and connects. For our elders, this was a reminder that strength isn’t measured in speed, but in participation, presence, and perseverance.

Memory is not just recall it’s identity, belonging, and the quiet strength of remembering who we are.
Through our verbal and memory quiz, we invited our elders to revisit moments, stories, and favourites that shaped their lives. What began as questions became conversations and what began as a quiz became connection.

Reminiscence therapy helps keep the mind active while bringing warmth to the heart. Each shared memory was a bridge between generations, between past and present, between loneliness and togetherness.

Listen to their stories, share a smile, and help preserve the beautiful tapestry of memory that makes us human.

Sometimes, healing looks like a familiar face from childhood like Donald Duck. 🦆💙
As our elders coloured their favourite cartoon, laughter filled the room. This simple, nostalgic activity rekindled innocence, comfort, and pure joy. It wasn’t just about colouring it was about reconnecting with the child within, and allowing lightness to replace the weight of time.

Nostalgic art therapy taps into positive memories, reduces anxiety, and fosters emotional expression. It reminds us that joy, in all its forms, is timeless.

Bring smiles, colours, and compassion and help others rediscover the art of feeling young again.

Fine motor skills are more than movement💪 they’re a quiet language of connection between the mind, the body, and the soul.
Through this gentle therapeutic exercise of picking up paper rings with sticks, our elderly participants reawakened balance, coordination, and focus but also something deeper. Every steady hand, every concentrated gaze became a testament to resilience, grace, and the will to keep engaging with life, no matter the age.

What may seem like play is, in truth, therapy in motion, a bridge between independence and care, between memory and mindfulness. Each moment of participation is an act of dignity, keeping the mind alert and the spirit alive.

Words are powerful they awaken memories, stimulate thought, and remind us of who we are.
In our word search session, each discovered word became a spark lighting up cognitive pathways, sharpening focus, and nurturing confidence. For our elders, this wasn’t just about finding words on paper, but about finding pieces of themselves in the process.

Cognitive exercises like these strengthen memory and attention, helping the mind stay active and engaged. But more than that, they bring joy, laughter, and shared discovery the kind that heals quietly, yet deeply.

Come volunteer with us.
Be part of the moments where therapy feels like joy, and every word found is a story reclaimed.

🎈 Our first session at JJ Dharamshala was filled with laughter, colour, and pure joy. What began as a simple visit turned into something beautiful the elders welcomed us with open arms, eager to play, laugh, and relive the childlike happiness within them. 💛

JJ Dharamshala is home to elderly individuals who were once homeless and have now been lovingly rehabilitated. It is our team’s honour to support these wonderful senior citizens in their journey of recovery, healing, and rediscovery helping them rebuild trust, confidence, and connection through our recreational therapeutic interventions. 🌿

Through balloons and musical chairs, therapy came alive strengthening coordination, focus, and emotional connection through shared laughter. What looked like fun was truly healing in motion.

Because joy heals, and togetherness transforms.
You can help us continue offering therapeutic support to these elders by volunteering your time or donating to The Vahishta Foundation. Every act of kindness helps restore hope and dignity. 💫

This New Year, the Vahishta Foundation celebrated new beginnings with children undergoing cancer treatment at St. Jude India ChildCare Centre, where they and their family member are provided with a clean and healthy residential facility for the entire duration of their treatment in Mumbai 💛

Our Child Psychotherapists especially curated and designed bibliotherapy and art therapy sessions for these special young friends, the children expressed and processed their emotions and conflicts within and found hope and joy as our team worked with them.

Our mental health initiative provided a safe emotional outlet for these young children , and they were able to enter a healthy emotional space with our compassionate and experienced team members.

These creative therapeutic approaches encouraged self-expression, emotional release, and a sense of connection, essential elements in nurturing mental well-being during cancer treatment and recovery.

Here’s to lighting not just diyas, but hearts and continuing to find strength, hope, and new beginnings together. 🕯💫

This Diwali, let your kindness shine brighter than the fireworks. 🕯️💫

While the world lights up in celebration, there are some hearts that tremble in fear the ones that cannot speak, yet feel it all. The strays who find shelter under cars, the pets hiding beneath beds, the birds who fall silent in the sky. 💔

Vahishta means ‘the whole’ and at The Vahishta Foundation, we live by that truth. Our compassion extends to every living being that shares this world with us. A part of our heart lies with the furry strays of Mumbai those who seek nothing more than a bit of food, clean water, and the warmth of care. 🐾

We are dedicated to helping them receive sustenance, safety, and love through the simplest of acts a meal shared, a bowl of water placed, a moment of kindness given. 🌿

This Diwali, let’s give back to them.

Feed them. Protect them. Comfort them. Be their calm in the noise and their light in the dark. 🌙

Because true celebration isn’t just about lighting diyas it’s about lighting lives. ✨
Let’s make this a Diwali of compassion, awareness, and love for the ones who love us without words.
🐶🐱

Give back. Always.
