Under the "Break the Silence" program, an initiative titled "Breaking the Silence in Slum Areas" was organized. Under the aegis of the Betiyan Foundation and the Immun organization, a menstrual hygiene awareness program was conducted for women and adolescent girls residing in the slums of Tejgarhi. The objective of this program was to raise health awareness among women, debunk myths associated with menstruation, dispel misconceptions and shame surrounding the subject, provide information on proper hygiene practices, empower adolescent girls and women, and promote the use of affordable and safe sanitary napkins.
Organization President Anju Pandey stated that during the program, expert Ritika outlined proper hygiene measures, and the women were given the opportunity to openly share their concerns. This initiative not only fostered increased awareness but also instilled a visible sense of self-confidence among the women.
Many women and adolescent girls living in India's slums continue to live in deprivation today, lacking access to information, hygiene facilities, and resources related to menstruation. Due to social hesitation and the culture of silence, they frequently face various health-related challenges.
Suman, a local resident, was appointed as a "Health Ambassador" to help create a safe and conducive environment where women could openly discuss this subject, thereby facilitating improved health outcomes and a reduction in infections.
With this pressing issue in mind, the Betiyan Foundation is actively and regularly spreading awareness through its menstrual hygiene program, anchored by the theme "Break the Silence." The event concluded with the distribution of affordable and health-friendly sanitary napkins by Nodal Officers Kusum Sharma and Neera Gupta, along with the attending team members.
