We, the doctors and students of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, express our deepest horror and outrage at the brutal gangrape of a second-year MBBS student near the campus of IQ City Medical College Hospital, in Durgapur, West Bengal. The survivor, a young woman pursuing her studies, was violently attacked outside the campus, exposing a shocking failure of security and accountability.

This is not an isolated incident. It echoes the horrors of the RG Kar case and the Abhaya incident of 9th August 2024, revealing a recurring pattern of violence against women in educational institutions and a systemic neglect that endangers lives.

We condemn in the strongest terms the apathy of the college administration and local authorities, whose inaction perpetuates this cycle of brutality. Such callous disregard for human safety and dignity is intolerable.

We demand an immediate, independent, and transparent judicial investigation; strict punishment for the perpetrators and those who shielded them; removal and inquiry of negligent officials; establishment of functional Internal Complaints Committees and Gender Sensitization Cells under external oversight; and comprehensive safety measures in all medical institutions, including round-the-clock surveillance, adequate lighting, female security personnel, and emergency response systems.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with the survivor. Her courage in the face of such unimaginable cruelty must be met with collective outrage, decisive action, and unflinching justice.

We will not stay silent. We will not forgive. We will not forget.

ইতিমধ্যে সংবাদমাধ্যমের সূত্রে আমরা জানতে পেরেছি, অভয়ার মা-বাবার ডাকে একটি বিশেষ রাজনৈতিক দলের স্বদলীয় পতাকাবিহীন নিরস্ত্র নবান্ন অভিযানের সময় রাজ্যের পুলিশ প্রশাসন কদর্যতার চরমতম সীমা অতিক্রম করে যায়। মেয়ের বিচারের আশায় নবান্ন যেতে চাওয়া অভয়ার বাবা-মাকে পুলিশ পিটিয়েছে, কপালে মেরেছে, শাঁখা ভেঙে দিয়েছে। বাঙালি হিসেবে এই লজ্জার শেষ নেই, যেখানে নির্যাতিতার বিচার নেই, যেখানে ছত্রে ছত্রে প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিদের প্রমাণ লোপাটের গভীর ষড়যন্ত্র, আর নির্যাতিতার বাবা-মা পুলিশ-প্রশাসনের হাতে আক্রান্ত। পৃথিবীর কালো-সাদা-হলুদ মানুষের গান, তাদের স্বপ্ন, এক মুহূর্ত সেই চিৎকার শুনে থমকে দাঁড়ায়। গণতন্ত্ররূপী এই নরমেধ যজ্ঞের প্রহসনে আজ পক্ষ বেছে নেওয়ার সময় - ধর্ষকপক্ষ বনাম অভয়াপক্ষ, বাকি সব হিসেব-নিকেশ অর্থহীন। ও আলোর পথযাত্রী, এ যে রাত্রি, এখানে থেমো না; নিকষ কালো অন্ধকারের বুক চিরে সদর্পে ঘোষণা করো - "বিচার যখন প্রহসন, লড়াই তখন আমরণ।

অতিক্রান্ত ৩৬৫ দিন, অভয়া আজও বিচারহীন

অভিশপ্ত ৯ আগস্ট। দেখতে দেখতে পেরিয়ে গেলো একটি বছর। আরজি করে কর্তব্যরত জুনিয়র ডাক্তার অভয়ার নৃশংস খুন-ধর্ষণের এক বছর। কী পেলাম আমরা?

একদিকে প্রমাণ লোপাটের গভীর ষড়যন্ত্র আর ভয়ের রাজনীতির চেনা ছক, অন্যদিকে বিচারের নামে প্রহসন। দেশের সর্বোচ্চ তদন্তকারী সংস্থার নির্লজ্জ ব্যর্থতার চরম নিদর্শন।

অভয়ার মা-বাবা লড়ছেন মেয়ের ন্যায়বিচারের জন্য; এই লড়াইয়ের সাথী আমরা সবাই। তাই এই রাখির শপথ, অভয়ার ভাই, অভয়ার বোন, আমরা অভয়ার বিচার চাই।

আমরা বলতে চাই, আমার দিদির রক্ত হবে নাকো ব্যর্থ। তাই মেদিনীপুর মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালের ছাত্রছাত্রীবৃন্দ ও জুনিয়র ডাক্তারদের উদ্যোগে আগামী ৯ আগস্ট সমগ্র দিনব্যাপী থাকবে একাধিক কর্মসূচি। সেই অভিশপ্ত মধ্যরাতে রাত বারোটার সময় অভয়ার স্মরণে মোমবাতি জ্বালিয়ে আমরা জীবনের অন্ধকার দূর করা সংকল্প নেব। তারপর ৯ আগস্ট সকাল ৯ টা থেকে কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসে অভয়ার স্মরণে রক্তদান শিবির এবং বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।

একই সাথে হাসপাতালে এবং কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসে রোগী ও তার পরিজনদের সম্প্রীতির রাখি-বন্ধনের মাধ্যমে আমরা, অভয়ার ভাই-বোনেরা, সবাই একসাথে অভয়ার জন্য ন্যায়বিচার ছিনিয়ে আনার প্রতিজ্ঞা নেব। সবশেষে ৯ আগস্ট বিকেল ৫ টায় কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসে অভয়ার স্মরণে জনতার প্রতিবাদী সমাবেশ অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।

সকলের সমবেত ও স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত প্রতিবাদী অংশগ্রহণে, এই রাখি-বন্ধনের দিনে, অভয়ার ন্যায়বিচারের দাবি আরো একবার, আরো জোরালোভাবে দিকে দিকে ছড়িয়ে পড়ুক।

ONE YEAR OF INJUSTICE

Cursed 9th August. One full year has passed since the horrific night when Abhaya, a junior doctor serving at RG Kar Medical College, was brutally r***d and murdered. The memory still burns in our hearts, but justice remains a distant dream. What have we received in return for our cries and protests?

On one side lies the dark conspiracy to tamper with evidence and silence truth through fear and political games. On the other, a farcical excuse of a trial. The country’s top investigative agency has stood exposed in its absolute failure. It is a shame carved into our national conscience.

Abhaya’s parents continue their relentless battle for justice. And we stand beside them. Every student, every doctor, every citizen with a conscience is a soldier in this fight. This Raksha Bandhan, we vow once again. As Abhaya’s brothers and sisters, we will not let her blood go in vain. We will not let her memory fade into silence.

That is why, on August 9, the students and junior doctors of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital will hold a day-long series of events in Abhaya’s memory. At the stroke of midnight, we will light candles to remember her and to ignite a flame that injustice cannot extinguish. From 9 AM, a blood donation camp and tree plantation drive will take place within the college campus to honor her life and commitment.

Throughout the day, rakhis of solidarity will be tied on patients and their families within the hospital and college campus. Together as Abhaya’s brothers and sisters, we shall reaffirm our collective vow to fight until justice is served. At 5 PM, the entire college will gather for a protest meeting to raise a united voice in her memory. Let this Raksha Bandhan echo with fury, with pain, and with purpose. Let the demand for Abhaya’s justice rise again, louder and stronger than ever before.

On 9th August 2024, the world witnessed what happened at RG Kar - an incident that shook humanity, that broke countless hearts, that stood as a reminder of the cruelty no soul should endure.

A year has passed, yet justice still lingers in the shadows.
This 9th, we gather - not in silence, but in unyielding remembrance. In memory of Abhaya. In memory of the promise we made.

Let your blood be her voice....let it speak for the justice she deserves, that we all deserve.

Spread the word, so more hearts can come forward, and more lives can be touched by the kindness we share.

One Year of Injustice

Today is July 9th. 11 months have passed since the cursed night when Abhaya was r***d and murdered.

Abhaya was one of us. A junior doctor. A member of our medical fraternity.

She never returned after that night. What we lost was more than a life. We lost a bright possibility and the future of a family.

11 months have passed, yet the following questions remain unanswered:

1. What exactly happened that night?
2. Was there only one perpetrator?
3. If Sanjay Roy is the only accused, why were top administrative officials, the Police Commissioner, and college authorities found involved in suppressing evidence?
4. Where was the actual crime scene?
5. Why has the final chargesheet not been filed yet?
6. What was the motive behind this crime?
7. Is anyone influencing the judicial process?
8. What steps have been taken to prevent a recurrence of such crimes?

One year is nearly over. Still, justice has not been served.

These questions are not just those of Abhaya’s parents. They belong to every conscientious doctor, student, and citizen.

Sanjay Roy, Sandip Ghosh, Manojit Mishra - these are not just names. They represent the perverse mindset that remains deeply rooted in many layers of our society.

The demand for justice has once again intensified after the recent incident at Kasba Law College.

Another young female student. Another institution. Another act of brutality. Once again, there are allegations of threats, political influence, and destruction of evidence. The pattern remains the same. The same "threat culture". Only the face of the victim has changed, the character of the ra**st hasn't.

9th August is just one month away. It will be one year of Injustice. We, the junior doctors of Midnapore Medical College, are planning to organise a series of events in Midnapore town on August 8th and 9th, in remembrance of Abhaya. As part of Raksha Bandhan, we will gather again in a rally of unity and resolve.

Let's come together, beyond political identities, as humans and citizens. Let's stand against this injustice. Let's build a society that is just, compassionate, and safe for future generations.

We want justice. Justice for Abhaya. Justice for every Abhaya.

বিচারহীন এক বছর।

আজ ৯ জুলাই। অভয়াকে ধর্ষণ ও খুন করার সেই অভিশপ্ত রাতের ১১ মাস পূর্ণ হলো আজ।

অভয়া কেবল একজন তরুণী নন, তিনি ছিলেন আমাদের চিকিৎসক সমাজেরই একজন। একজন জুনিয়র ডাক্তার।

সেই রাতের পর সে আর ফিরে আসেনি। হারিয়ে গেছে একটি সম্ভাবনা। একটি পরিবারের ভবিষ্যৎ।

১১ মাস পেরিয়ে গিয়েছে, তবুও আজও উত্তর মেলেনি এই প্রশ্নগুলির:

১. সেদিন ঠিক কী ঘটেছিল?
২. ধর্ষক কি একজনই ছিল?
৩. যদি সঞ্জয় রায়ই একমাত্র দোষী হন, তবে প্রশাসনের শীর্ষপদে থাকা ব্যক্তিরা, পুলিশ কমিশনার ও কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষ প্রমাণ লোপাটে যুক্ত হলেন কেন?
৪. প্রকৃত ঘটনাস্থল কোথায়?
৫. কেন এখনও চূড়ান্ত চার্জশিট জমা পড়েনি?
৬. এই অপরাধের মোটিভ কী ছিল?
৭. কেউ কি বিচারপ্রক্রিয়া প্রভাবিত করছে?
৮. এমন ঘটনার পুনরাবৃত্তি ঠেকাতে প্রশাসন কী ব্যবস্থা নিয়েছে?

এক বছর কেটে যাচ্ছে। ন্যায়বিচার আজও অধরা।

এই প্রশ্নগুলি শুধু অভয়ার পরিবারের নয়, প্রতিটি বিবেকবান চিকিৎসক, নাগরিক এবং ছাত্রছাত্রীর।

সঞ্জয় রায়, সন্দীপ ঘোষ, মনোজিৎ মিশ্র; এই নামগুলো শুধু ব্যক্তির নাম নয়, এরা প্রতিফলন এক বিকৃত মানসিকতার, যা সমাজের বহু স্তরে আজও সক্রিয়।

এই ন্যায়বিচারের দাবির আগুন আবার জ্বলে উঠেছে কসবা আইন কলেজের সাম্প্রতিক ঘটনার পর।

আরও এক তরুণী শিক্ষার্থী। আরেকটি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান। আরেকটি পাশবিকতা। সেই চিরাচরিত থ্রেট কালচারের পুরোনো ছবি। ফের অভিযোগ হুমকির, প্রভাব খাটানো, প্রমাণ লোপাটের চেনা পদ্ধতির। শুধু ভুক্তভোগীর মুখ বদলেছে। ধর্ষকের চরিত্র বদলায়নি।

আগামী ৯ অগস্ট, রাখি-বন্ধনের দিন, আমাদের অভয়ার হারিয়ে যাওয়ার, অভয়ার ন্যায়বিচার না পাওয়ার এক বছর।আমরা ভুলিনি, আমরা ভুলবো না। তাই আমরা, মেদিনীপুর মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালের জুনিয়র ডাক্তাররা, অভয়ার ভাইবোনেরা, মেদিনীপুর শহরে আগামী ৮ এবং ৯ অগস্ট, আমাদের কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে, ন্যায়বিচার যাত্রার মাধ্যমে অভয়াকে স্মরণ করবো। জনতার রাখির বন্ধনে, একতার র‍্যালিতে আমরা আবার জড়ো হব।

আসুন, রাজনৈতিক রঙের ঊর্ধ্বে উঠে, আমরা সকলে, মানুষ হিসেবে, নাগরিক হিসেবে, একত্রিত হই। এই অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে দাঁড়াই। আগামী প্রজন্মের জন্য এক ন্যায়নিষ্ঠ ও মানবিক সমাজ গড়ে তুলি।

We want justice. Justice for Abhaya. Justice for every Abhaya.

অভয়ার নারকীয় খুন-ধর্ষণের ঘটনার পর প্রায় এগারো মাস অতিক্রান্ত। ন্যায়বিচার তো অধরাই, বরং বছর পেরোতে চললেও সেই দুঃসহ সামাজিক ব্যাধি, প্রশাসনিক ও রাজনৈতিক অবক্ষয় এবং পেশীশক্তির আস্ফালন ক্রমবর্ধমান। কসবা-কাণ্ড কোনো বিচ্ছিন্ন ঘটনা নয়; পশ্চিমবঙ্গের আর্থ-সামাজিক ও রাজনৈতিক মানচিত্রের ছত্রে ছত্রে রক্তের দাগ; আর আর্ত, নিপীড়িত মানুষের হাহাকার। অভয়া নিজের জীবন দিয়ে সমগ্র বাঙালি জাতির নুইয়ে পড়া, ভগ্নপ্রায় মেরুদণ্ডকে সোজা করে দিয়ে গেছিল; বিচারের দাবিতে প্রতিবাদে সোচ্চার হয়েছিল নাগরিক সমাজ। আমরা বলেছিলাম, "অভয়ার ভয় নাই, রাজপথ ছাড়ি নাই"। সেই শপথ-বাক্যকে স্মরণে রেখে আমরা কসবা-কাণ্ডে দোষীদের চরমতম শাস্তির দাবি জানাই।
