GRAMA SEVA SAMITHY VATHIKULAM
Before Independence, there was a youngsters club at Vathikulm- During the year it was duly transformed as Grama Seva Samithy Vathikulam. During the past the Samithy centralized its performance mainly to education and development factors. The road developmental activities of Vathikulam ward and especially Thekkekkara Panchayath become the responsibility of the Samithy.
The samithy played a vital role in receiving the best Panchayath Award to Thekkekkara during the year 1979. The Samithy conducted tuition to the financially backward students along with the other activities. Those students are being given free note books and the other occasions for the better improvement of the education. For the better prospectus of the coconut agriculturist’s coconut were produced among them sold to higher price. It helped the coconut growers to a recoverable extent. At present the samithy plays a vital role in the field of art, sports and all the cultural activities. Cricket, Volley ball. Foot ball and other sports competitions are being conducted by the samithy during the annual celebrations along with art and cultural events. The Samithy extends its work to promolgali vathikulam village . For the promotion in achieving the goal the samithy has launched innumerable efforts. The Samithy has done a lot to improve transport activities in the local area. The institution is being conducts ever so many free medical and Ayurvedic camps along with the blood group identification camps. The own building of the samithy was inaugurated by Sri. M Muraly MLA during 1992. State award were received by this members of the samithy in the state level “Keralotsevam”. All financially backward students are being given educational accessories every year. Along with cooperation of the Thekekkara Grama Panchayath anti-rabies poison to dogs and preventive injections to the cows are being continued every year without lapse. The annual celebration of the samithy is continuing on “Thiruvonam” ever year. Awards are being presented to those students SSLC, +2, VHSC (General SC/ST) who gets the highest marks besides financial aid and also is being given to poor students
Cultural and sports and games are being conducted every year, Prizes will be distribute in the cultural meetings .Ever so many Seminars and meetings were conducted in Association with VFPCK and Department of Agriculture. Grama Seva Samithy “Balavedy” is working properly and satisfactory in order to promote the work of the samithy in future. During the year 2005 the Grama Seva samithy received the Mavelikkara Red Cross Society Best award for its best performance. This organization is stands above all the Political motivation, difference of cast and creed. As a result institution is successfully working at present in a smooth way and line. The samithy played an important role to redress and grievances of the people in the “Tsunami” affects area. Besides it has done a lot to eliminate the epidemic “Chikungunia” in this Village. C S Sujatha M P has allocated MP fund for the construction of a cultural centre. It was inaugurated on 22-2-2009 by Sri. G Sudhakaran, Minister of coir and Devaswom Sry. C S Sujatha M P inaugurated the computers Lab. Donated by Tata-Tele services as part of their corporate social responsibility activities. Thus the samithy is playing a noted role in all fields to active the dazzling Pinnate of prestige and glory in future, the huge responsibilities are being shared by the members of the committee. We expect the almost cooperation of the Panchayath, Various Departments and the people of the locality to reach the dedicated aim. A prosperous era is the vision of the samithy. This rural area will be changed as a urban area within a near future. Effective steps are being launched by the Samithy in this respect. Let god the almighty cherish his blessings to have a stable stand for the 63rd anniversary of the samithy during next year.
