What a wonderful day!

Our Paws and Wellness event truly felt like a success from every angle. The energy through the evening was beautiful. More than fifteen people came in for vet consultations, the vaccination drive ran smoothly, and the school children brought so much joy with their enthusiastic participation.

The children shared their rescue stories, their love for community animals, and it moved us to see how many of them have already adopted and cared for our community dogs and cats.

The interactive session with , our dog behaviorist, was a huge highlight. The audience engagement was incredible, with many thoughtful questions and valuable conversations that helped deepen everyone’s understanding of dog behaviour.

But the best part of the day was that 4 puppies found loving homes!! Knowing they will soon begin a new chapter with their forever families is the purest reminder of why we do what we do.

We truly felt that the message of kindness and harmony reached everyone present that day.

A heartfelt thank you to Foundation, our team, our supporters, and every person who joined us. You helped make this event truly special.

It’s been bothering us to see so many missing cat pictures/posts, and they are almost always of cats with collars and bells.

We can’t help but wonder how much more vulnerable these cats become to predators, or how easily a collar could get caught on a fence, a branch, or a window grill. Cats aren’t like dogs. They’re built for agility, balance, and stealth. They climb trees, jump onto ledges, squeeze through tight spaces. The collar can get caught in any of these, and one moment of panic can turn dangerous, and we’ve seen it happen.

Needless to say, the constant noise of a bell right next to their ears is far from harmless.

Cats hear far better than we do, and that little sound we find harmless can actually be distressing for them. Over time, it can make them anxious, irritable, or even cause discomfort in their ears.

Collars and bells also make it harder for cats to groom themselves properly, frustrate their natural hunting instincts, and even alert other animals or predators to their presence. Some cats become restless or withdrawn because they just can’t stand the sound or feel of it.

We know most people mean well. They want their cats to look nice or feel safe. So, if you really need a collar, please use a breakaway safety one that comes off if it gets stuck, and please, skip the bell.

Cats are quiet, graceful creatures. Let’s not take that away from them.

What do you think about this trend? Have you noticed it too?

The case that shook Goa.
It was a Sunday evening when a dog named Coco was brought to our clinic, bleeding, trembling, and barely conscious. She had been shot in the mouth at close range with an air gun.
Coco wasn’t aggressive, she’s a sweet, trusting, friendly dog. She probably walked right up to the person who aimed at her and pulled the trigger.
It being a Sunday evening, ours was the only clinic open. The team rushed her in, took an X-ray immediately, and found multiple bullet fragments buried deep inside her jaw. Our vets performed emergency surgery late into the night, doing everything they could to save her, we are so happy to share that Coco made it.
Over the next few weeks, she stayed with us for intensive treatment and round-the-clock care. And finally, she has gone home back to her caretaker, who had been waiting for her all along.
An FIR has been filed against an unknown person for this horrific act. The police have visited our centre to collect evidence, and we hope and pray that the culprit is caught.
Coco’s story was covered by every major news in Goa. It shocked people, as it should. Because what happened to her is not just cruelty, it’s a reflection of something deeply broken in how we see and treat animals.
We are deeply grateful to the Mapusa Police Station, DSPCA (North Goa) and the officers who responded quickly, filed the FIR, and are conducting a thorough inquiry. We are cooperating fully and handing over every piece of evidence we have. This matters because cruelty to animals is not a standalone crime. It is often a warning sign of broader violence. People who hurt animals are, in many cases, capable of hurting people too. For the safety of both animals and our communities, it is essential that the person who did this is found and held to account.
More power to our medical team for having pulled Coco back from the jaws of death. And more power to Coco’s loving and kind caretaker, who refused to give up, and who has filed the FIR and is fighting for justice for her loved dog. Sincere gratitude to DSPCA (North Goa) for pursuing the case with fervour to ensure justice is upheld.
We need stricter laws, more voices, and stronger community awar

BREAKING NEWS - SUPREME COURT UPDATE ON SUO MOTO CASE

Today, the Supreme Court of India came down heavily on all States & UTs (except West Bengal & Telangana) for not having filed the affidavits showing what steps they’ve taken to implement the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2023.

On August 22, the Court directed every State/UT to submit these affidavits. But as of today only West Bengal, Telangana and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have done so.

The bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and N. V. Anjaria has summoned the Chief Secretaries of remaining States/UTs to appear in person on November 3rd to explain the delay.

Kukur Tihar 2025 - A Celebration of Loyalty and Love at Angels for Animals, Goa

A few days back, our centre came alive with flowers, tilaks, wagging tails and boundless joy as we celebrated the third edition of our annual Kukur Tihar - a day dedicated to honouring dogs for their unwavering loyalty, love and companionship.

Kukur Tihar, traditionally celebrated in Nepal as part of the five-day Tihar festival, is a beautiful tradition that reveres dogs, both pets and community dogs, as sacred beings. On this special day, they are adorned with garlands, offered treats, and blessed with a red tika on their forehead, symbolising their revered place in our lives and society.

The festival has deep roots in Hindu mythology. Dogs are believed to be the guardians and messengers of Yama, the God of Death. They watch over the gates of the afterlife, guiding and protecting souls on their journey. By honouring them, we acknowledge their spiritual role as protectors and loyal companions - both in this world and beyond.

At Angels for Animals, Kukur Tihar has become a cherished tradition, a way to bring this meaningful celebration to Goa and to remind our community of the profound bond we share with animals. It’s a bond built on trust, respect, and unconditional love.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this year’s celebration so special. 🧡✨

Wishing you all a joyful festive season filled with love, light, and heartfelt celebrations with your family - furry members included!
