Everything you know isn't always true…

From news headlines, social media posts to forwarded messages, there’s a lot of negative narrative doing the rounds regarding community animals. But none tell the full story!

When misinformation spreads, fear spreads with it. And when fear takes over, both animals and people suffer.

So it's important to separate myths from facts before forming an opinion. Understanding how community animals behave, and what actually works to manage them humanely, helps create safer neighbourhoods for everyone.

Let's choose facts over fear, understanding over assumptions, and coexistence over conflict.

Every day, more than 250 dogs and cats depend on us for something so simple, yet so essential - a nourishing meal.

Some are recovering from injuries. Some are learning to trust again after being abandoned. Some are patiently waiting for a family to call their own, while others continue to face the hardships of life on the streets.

No matter where they are in their journey, every full bowl brings comfort, strength, and hope.

Rapid urbanisation has significantly impacted the natural habitat of several wildlife animals, including snakes. This coupled with monsoon rains has markedly increased snake encounters in recent years.

In an effort to equip ourselves to respond with awareness, we attended a Snake Awareness Workshop on 4th July conducted by RESQ Charitable Trust and Benhail Antao.

RESQ Charitable Trust is a well-known wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation known for its work in rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating wild animals while promoting coexistence through education and awareness. Benhail Antao is a noteworthy wildlife rescuer and conservationist.

He is an experienced snake rescuer and educator who conducts practical training sessions on snake identification, safe response, and conflict mitigation.

The workshop was an important step for us to be better prepared during snake encounters. Our entire rescue centre team including medical, rescue, and support teams attended the workshop.

Highlights of the workshop:
- Replaced fear with awareness
- Taught us to identify common venomous and non-venomous snakes
- Equipped us to respond safely and appropriately during encounters
- Measures to prevent unnecessary killing of snakes
- Seeking expert assistance in demanding situations

Animal welfare is about more than rescue. It is about creating lasting solutions through awareness, responsible pet ownership, sterilisation, medical care, and community participation.

Had it not been for the labourers, Snoopy’s story may have ended differently. This is a testimony of how community compassion and involvement plays a significant role in the welfare of street or abandoned animals.

This also brings to light a rather sad reality of abandonment of pets becoming a regular occurrence. Although Angels for Animals exists primarily to care for injured and sick community animals, our kennels are increasingly being filled with pedigree dogs that families abandon when they become old, sick, or inconvenient.

We firmly believe that together we can give animals the care and support they truly deserve. And, we invite your participation in this mission.
