We, the ‘Mogaveers’ are the traditional fishing community of the coastal region. Being hard working people, we have a long standing tradition of making worthy contribution to society. When Rani Abbakka, the legendary 16 century queen of Ullal, valiantly fought against Portuguese invaders, her trusted warriors were the mogaveera youth. Indeed we are well known for our devotion to the motherland; we
proud of our willingness to sacrifice all for the sake of the country. However large sections of our community continue to be economically backward. Situated close to the Ullal Beach, Sri Vyaghrachamundeshwari temple is venerated shrine of the community. It holds the community together with its 850 years history and heritage. The starting of Mogaveera Higher Primary School at Mogaveera Patna, Ullal was a Landmark and endeavor. This school was established in 1947, the year of Indian Independence. It was set up the objective to providing education to the new generations and paves the way for social and economic improvement. Subsequently, in the year of 1954, the Alumni of the school got together and formed the “Mogaveera Higher Primary School Old Students Association”. This is a registered voluntary organization comprising former students of the school and its objective is to undertake welfare activities in the locality. In the course of time this association also gave birth to two subsidiary units, the “Brothers Sports Club” and “Brothers Yuvaka Mandal”. In the year 2002, the association was able to move its on newly constructed premises. Over the years, the association has made many contributions to the alma mater and to society at large and I listing of these activities is attached herewith for you reference
Due to its active involvement in social work, the association enjoys great popularity in the neighborhoods and its Golden Jubilee was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the year 2004. Now the association is poised to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee to mark the completion of 60 years
To commemorate this important occasion, we have embarked on the following projects for the Welfare of society:
• Construction of a community hall to be managed under the auspices of Ullal Mogaveera Grama Sabha at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore. This hall will be boon for the village people for hosting marriage and social events at affordable cost
• Construction of living quarters for the head priest of the local Sri Vyaghrachamundeshwari temple, which is a spiritual hub of the community
• Pledge by about 100 members of the association for ‘Eye Donation’ which is a noble endeavor of gifting eye sight to the blind. Being a reputable and socially organization of this region, we are sure you will appreciate our above initiative.
