A Brief History of Independence Day of Angola

Angola achieved independence from Portuguese colonial rule on 11 November 1975, after years of struggle led by several liberation movements, including the MPLA (Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola), FNLA (National Front for the Liberation of Angola), and UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola).

The historic Declaration of Independence was made by Agostinho Neto, who became Angola’s first President, marking the birth of a new nation after over 400 years of colonial rule. Despite facing a prolonged civil conflict in the years that followed, Angola has emerged as a symbol of resilience, unity, and reconstruction.

Today, Independence Day is celebrated with national pride — through cultural performances, patriotic speeches, and remembrance of those who sacrificed for freedom.

A Brief History of Independence Day of Afghanistan

Afghanistan celebrates independence on 19 August to honor the aftermath of the Treaty of Rawalpindi (Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919), which concluded the Third Anglo–Afghan War and recognized Afghanistan’s autonomy over its foreign policy.

Under the leadership of Emir Amanullah Khan, the nation proclaimed full sovereignty from British influence on 19 August 1919, marking a pivotal shift in its modern history. The Taq-e Zafar, or Arch of Victory in Kabul’s Paghman Gardens, stands as a lasting tribute to Afghanistan’s independence and enduring spirit. Afghanistan’s Independence Day is commemorated nationwide with patriotism and pride—through official addresses, cultural displays like the traditional "Attan" dance, and vibrant declarations of national identity.
