A Different Kind of Independence Day 🇮🇳❤️

This Independence Day, Gaja Conservation Trust chose to celebrate by giving children something they truly needed ---- Comfort, Dignity, and a Better place to learn.

At a remote Anganwadi centre inside Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, children learn in a small, old building with barely enough space. GCT noticed them sitting outside on the floor during a rainy day and decided to step in.

We provided books, pencil kits, indoor games and essential floor mats. We also brought the children's mothers together and spoke about their role in shaping their children's future, along with simple dos and don'ts to support their education and well-being.

We continue to support this school with its basic needs, because sometimes meaningful change begins by simply noticing what others overlook.

For GCT, conservation is not only about protecting forests and wildlife. It is also about standing with the communities and children who live alongside them.

Every child deserves a safe and comfortable place to learn. 🇮🇳❤️🐘

Building Awareness Where It Matters Most 🐘🌿

Gaja Conservation Trust recently conducted an awareness session for high school students in Arehalli, Belur, a landscape that experiences significant human–elephant conflict.

The session focused on helping young minds understand elephants, their ecological importance, the challenges of human–elephant coexistence, and the importance of responsible behaviour in conflict-prone landscapes.

The participation of the students made the session truly encouraging. Conservation begins with awareness, and lasting coexistence begins with understanding.

Taking conservation education closer to communities living alongside wildlife is an important part of our mission at Gaja Conservation Trust.

🐘 World Elephant Day 2026 🐘

On the occasion of World Elephant Day, Gaja Conservation Trust had the opportunity to conduct an awareness session at IBS, engaging with students on the importance of elephant conservation and responsible coexistence.

The session explored:
🐘 Elephants and their ecological significance
🌳 Habitat loss, corridors and human–elephant conflict
♻️ Plastic pollution and its impact on wildlife
💰 The economic cost of human–elephant conflict
📊 ESG, CSR and conservation finance
📢 Marketing, consumer behaviour and conservation
💡 Business cases connecting business decisions with conservation outcomes

A key focus was to encourage students to look at conservation beyond an environmental perspective and understand how future professionals and business leaders can contribute through finance, strategy, marketing, ESG and responsible business practices.

We sincerely thank the IBS faculty, students and organisers for the opportunity, support and enthusiastic participation that made the session meaningful and engaging.

The next generation of conservation leaders may not all be wildlife biologists but we believe some may be sitting in today's classrooms.

🐘 WORLD ELEPHANT DAY | 12 AUGUST 🌿

Gaja Conservation Trust (GCT) is pleased to be associated with the CSR Club & Environment Club of IBS Bangalore for a special World Elephant Day session celebrating the magnificent Asian elephant and exploring what it takes to secure its future.

Elephants are more than iconic wildlife. They are ecosystem engineers, seed dispersers, and umbrella species whose survival is closely connected to the health of our forests, water systems, and biodiversity.

The session will explore:
🌿 Elephants as an umbrella species and their role in healthy ecosystems
🐘 Elephant behaviour and social life

🐅 The Roar Continues...

We were honoured to conduct an engaging Global Tiger Day awareness session at Mangalore Institute of Management & Science (MIMS), Bengaluru.

It was inspiring to interact with enthusiastic students and discuss:

🐾 Fascinating tiger behaviour and adaptations
⚠️ The major threats facing tigers and their habitats
🤝 How every individual can contribute to wildlife conservation through responsible choices and awareness

Every awareness session is an opportunity to inspire responsibility towards nature. Together, we can create a future where wildlife thrives and ecosystems remain healthy for generations to come.

Every child deserves the opportunity to dream.

Behind every student we support is a family fighting against overwhelming odds.

This week, Gaja Conservation Trust extended education support to two tribal girl students, helping them continue their academic journey. One pursuing first-year B.Sc. Nursing and the other studying in PUC.

Both students come from families where a single daily wage earner supports the entire household, including younger siblings (Mentally Challenged). Despite financial uncertainty, they continue to pursue their education with determination, aspiring to build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

A few months ago, we also supported with a mobile phone to the PUC student so she could continue her studies without interruption and stay connected to her family. We are happy to continue standing beside her as she takes another step towards her dreams.

Over the years, Gaja Conservation Trust has witnessed how educating one child transforms not only an individual life but also an entire family and inspires future generations.

We are delighted to share that an article by our Founder, Diwakar Bs ., has been featured in the July 2026 edition of Tadoba Diaries.

Titled "A Tiger in a Time Loop," the article recounts a rare wildlife experience of witnessing a young subadult tigress repeat almost identical hunting behaviour at the same place and time over two consecutive days in Tadoba. Beyond an exciting sighting, it offers a glimpse into how young tigers learn essential survival skills through practice and perseverance.

🟢 Another Small Step Towards Better Education! 🌿

This week, Gaja Conservation Trust donated a new Green Board to this tribal school in Bandipur, helping create a better learning environment for its students.

Our association with this school goes back nearly 4–5 years. During this time, we have consistently supported the school with essential learning materials such as notebooks, stationery, school bags, green boards, and other educational resources whenever the need arose.

We believe that quality education begins with access to basic learning infrastructure. A simple contribution today can make a lasting impact on a child's future.

📚📱 Empowering Dreams Beyond the Forest

Education often requires young students from remote tribal communities to take a courageous step. Leaving their villages, families, and familiar surroundings to pursue higher studies in larger towns and cities.

Recently, Gaja Conservation Trust supported two tribal students as they embarked on this important journey (After completing their SSLC & PUC). To help them navigate their academic life and stay connected with their families, we provided them with mobile phones. 📱

These devices are more than just a means of communication. They will serve as valuable tools for learning, accessing educational resources, attending online sessions, staying informed, and maintaining contact with loved ones back home.

We believe, for students taking their first steps into a new world of opportunities, such support can make a meaningful difference in their confidence and success.

We are happy to stand alongside these young achievers as they pursue their educational aspirations and build brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.
