There is something deeply rewarding about seeing a piece of land tell a new story✨

The second guava harvest under the TRIBES project, supported by NABARD, is more than a successful agricultural season it is a reflection of resilience, diversification and renewed opportunity for flood-affected communities in Majuli, Assam.

These are plots of land that communities had traditionally depended on for mono-cropping
an approach that left livelihoods particularly vulnerable to the recurring challenges of floods. Through the TRIBES project, these same lands are being transformed into diversified fruit-based farming systems, creating opportunities for farmers to generate more sustainable and resilient incomes.

A milestone in strengthening Majuli’s handloom heritage🧵✨

We are proud to announce the successful completion of the 1st Batch of the Skilled Handloom Textiles Training Programme, supported by LIC HFL Sangam and implemented by Ayang Trust.

The programme empowered 25 rural women weavers through hands-on training in improved handloom techniques, design development, and skill enhancement, helping them strengthen their craft and explore new livelihood opportunities.

By combining traditional knowledge with new skills and design innovation, the initiative aims to support sustainable livelihoods while preserving Assam’s rich handloom heritage.

A milestone in preserving Assam’s living heritage.

We are proud to announce the successful completion of the GI-Tagged Traditional Mask Making (Mukha Shilpa) Training Programme at Begenauti Satra, Majuli.

Supported by LIC HFL Sangam and implemented by Ayang Trust, the programme empowered 25 rural women with traditional Satriya mask-making skills, hands-on training, toolkits, and market linkages to help build sustainable livelihoods.

As one of Assam’s most treasured cultural traditions, Mukha Shilpa faces the challenge of declining artisan communities and limited livelihood opportunities, putting generations of indigenous knowledge at risk. This initiative was designed to address that challenge by creating a new generation of skilled women artisans who can preserve the craft while earning a sustainable income.

With Assamese Mukha Shilpa receiving its GI recognition, these artisans are carrying forward a centuries-old legacy, ensuring that this unique art form continues to thrive for generations to come.

From aspiration to enterprise.

Chumi Saikia Gogoi is one of the women entrepreneurs supported through the Women Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development Project in Lakhimpur, Assam. After completing food processing and entrepreneurship training, she has begun producing and marketing food products within her community, taking meaningful steps towards building a sustainable livelihood.
