Two journeys. One shared shift towards independence.

Through the Women Entrepreneurship Fund, Ayang Trust is supporting rural women across Majuli to strengthen and expand their existing livelihoods. The focus goes beyond access to credit, combining entrepreneurship training, continuous handholding, and the confidence to make independent financial decisions.

Women are using this support to scale small businesses, diversify income sources, and build more stable, self-sustaining livelihoods over time. These are gradual shifts, increased capacity, more consistent earnings, and greater control over everyday economic choices.

This work is not about quick transformations, but about enabling long-term resilience and dignity in how women earn and grow.

We are grateful to Systems Plus for supporting this initiative and recognising the potential of rural women entrepreneurs.

There is still a long way to go, but this is what becomes possible when access, trust, and opportunity come together.

More stories soon.

The Builders Programme is a leadership and entrepreneurship journey designed for practitioners working in underserved geographies and communities. Over the past few months, it has brought together changemakers from across the Northeast to strengthen their capacity as social entrepreneurs through workshops on social business, adaptive leadership, authentic voice, and impact-driven enterprise building.

Through immersive learning, reflection, and peer exchange, the programme supports participants in aligning their personal purpose with sustainable community-led solutions. More than just a training initiative, Builders is about nurturing a network of leaders committed to creating meaningful and lasting social transformation.

Congratulations to the first Builders Cohort 2026 for completing this journey with courage, commitment, and vision

We look forward to seeing the impact you continue to create in your communities.

We are grateful to Union Bank Social Foundation for strengthening our education initiatives by providing 25 computers to community libraries that Ayang Trust works with across Majuli.

In a river island where access to digital infrastructure remains limited, initiatives like this are critical to ensuring that children and young people are not left behind in an increasingly digital world. These computers will help transform community libraries into spaces where students can explore, learn, and build essential digital skills.

The computers were inaugurated in the presence of Srabana Kumar Pradhan, Regional Head, Regional Office (Jorhat), Union Bank of India, and Jyotishman Sonowal, whose support and presence made the occasion meaningful for the community.

Together, we hope to strengthen equitable access to learning opportunities for young people across Majuli.

We’re excited to share the launch of a new initiative in Lakhimpur, Assam, supported by focused on strengthening women-led livelihoods and entrepreneurship.

Across rural Assam, women play an important role in sectors such as handloom and food processing. Yet many producers continue to operate at a small scale, often without access to markets, finance, or the support systems needed to grow their work into sustainable enterprises.

Through this initiative, we hope to support 500 women producers to grow into entrepreneurs, while building a women-owned Farmer Producer Company that brings together producers from project villages as shareholders.

The program brings together capacity building, collectivisation, and market linkages. Women producers will receive training in food processing and handloom production, along with leadership and entrepreneurship development. The collective enterprise will create opportunities for shared infrastructure, stronger bargaining power, and improved access to markets.

By connecting skills with collective enterprise and market opportunities, the initiative aims to support the emergence of a women-led rural economic ecosystem in Lakhimpur, where local knowledge and traditional practices can translate into sustainable livelihoods.

We are grateful to for supporting this journey.

08/03/2026

In the flood-prone socio-economic landscape of Majuli, women play a central role in farming, weaving, and sustaining household economies. Yet their work often remains undervalued, and many continue to face barriers to markets, financial resources, and decision-making spaces.

Ayang Trust works to address these gaps by strengthening women’s economic participation and collective leadership. By organising rural women into producer collectives such as the , the organisation enables farmers and artisans to access training, financial literacy, enterprise support, and market linkages that are difficult to access individually.

Through this platform, women build on their existing knowledge of agriculture, weaving, and craft while also learning how to manage enterprises, negotiate prices, and participate in collective decision-making.

In a region shaped by recurring floods, land erosion, and limited livelihood opportunities, these efforts help create more stable income pathways while expanding women’s presence in local economic and public spaces. In this process of taking on leadership roles through a collective enterprise, they gradually gain a greater voice in the otherwise patriarchally confined households.

This journey reflects the spirit of this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain.” The progress seen in Majuli has been built through the time, knowledge, and solidarity women invest in collective platforms like Lékopé. .

By contributing to shared enterprises and supporting one another’s growth, women are strengthening not only their own livelihoods but also the resilience of their communities.

This International Women’s Day, we honour the women of Majuli whose strength, labour, and leadership are building more resilient communities and more equitable futures.

Stories grow stronger when we build them together.

We are happy to have .foundation collaborate with us through two vibrant workshops on translation and publishing.

Educators, writers, illustrators and publishers from across Northeast India came together in Majuli to reimagine children’s literature in our languages.

We thank for supporting this event and for their honest encouragement throughout.

Here’s to nurturing young readers through contextually rooted literature!
