The drive of development administration in India has taken many turns thereby adopting various approaches that may yield the results that are progressive and compatible for the citizens of the country. In the effort there was ample opportunities for the voluntary organizations that can contribute to the policies and programmes of government for meeting the objectives. This was the period when lots of voluntary organizations came out keeping various goals so that the overall welfare objectives of government can be met. These organizations proved their capability & capacity and made miracles in the drive of welfare programmes. Their reach was so extensive and intensive that it was identified rightly by the govt. and in the later part of the time govt. made these organizations as an important component in their administrative structures. These organizations have reached to those places informally where there was no governmental rescue to the people. ACTION FOR COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION OF SOCEITY (ACTS), is a voluntary organization, emerged with a group of persons with philanthropic ideologies and It made its formal presence in 26th March 2010 by registering itself under Societies Registration Act . It concentrated basically to meet the real welfare objectives of the government in tune with the dreams and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi towards village empowerment with education is the basic platform. Though the objectives of the organization are broad some of the objectives are considered paramount which mentions below are briefly. Objectives of the organization
The major aims and objectives of the organization are as follows.
To ensure the just rights to the women, disserted, older persons and children and to rehabilitate them for mainstreaming into the society.
To work for the increase of literates in the society and foster educational sense amongst the people and children
To impart vocational training for generating self-employment
To work for the development and empowerment of women & Children.
To support for ensuring basic health services in the rural areas
To foster entrepreneurship amongst the villagers and to work for environmental preservation issues.
To introduce modern technology in the rural areas
To promote de-addiction and foster the feeling of faith
To encourage participation in the governance and strengthen the spirit of democracy
To work for the improvement of health through various health interventions
To participate in the governmental schemes of various departments that aimed at rural development and social welfare
To coordinate with related agencies which are working for the rural development. Geographical area of Working
The organization is working in the entire state of Chhattisgarh covering all the districts. However the organization has every option to work in other states. Areas of concentration
ACTS India is working on various issues with more focus on the health issues. The following are the areas where the organization is working.
Health sector: In the health sector the organization is working for Reproductive Child Health, General health issues, diseases and on sickle cell anemia, Immunization for children. Other interventions of health include disease controlling, supporting to governmental schemes, conducting exclusive health camps etc.
Education sector: The organization has been working on for the improvement of primary education and adult education. The activities include individual interventions for checking the school drop outs, girl’s education, infrastructural support and association with agencies working on educational issues. Also every year the organization is distributing free books, copies and other stationeries to the poor children with the help of Mahaveer International, an association of international repute. The organization is running an English Medium school for children at Saraipally.
Disability rehabilitation: On the field of disability rehabilitation, the organization has been providing peripheral support to both physically and mentally challenged persons with special focus on children.
Environment sector: The organization has been conducting many awareness camps on the environmental preservation and plantation activities. Even it is supporting farmers on the modern agricultural technologies which are low costs.
Livelihood issues: The organization is imparting various vocational trainings to the unemployed youth in collaboration with other agencies on various trades and ensuring financial linkages for loan facilities. It is an effort of generating self-employment opportunities to the unemployed lot.
Women empowerment: The organization is fostering Women SHGs and imparting SHG trainings to the groups. It is helping them in taking up small ventures thereby improving the income level. For the sustainability aspect, it is taking up vocational trainings and helping women for ensuring economical independence. Projects / Programmes undertaken so far:
The organization has implemented / implementing the following major activities and projects since its inception.
1. Education Programmes: The organization is running an English medium school at Saraipally (Mahasamund district) for poor children. Through this it is also working on adult education programmes focusing on women at nearby villages and providing English medium education to the poor children of Saraipally block.
2. Health Interventions : The organization works on various issues of health such as Reproductive Child health, Immunization, Disease Controlling, health awareness, family planning and vector borne diseases with special focus on malaria controlling. The organization is conducting awareness programmes on AIDS, NRHM schemes, Modern sanitation, health facilities etc. Also it is conducting heath camps for ANC check-up, sickle cell anemia detection, general health camps, adolescent health camps etc. It is also conducting health education programme for adolescent girls in rural areas.
3. Support Programmes: The organization is supporting many schools for providing educational materials, books, stationeries to poor children. The support is being extended for poor girl children, disabled persons and mentally re****ed children. For urban beggars, the organization periodically distributes blankets, rain coats, used clothes etc. in association with other related agencies.
4. Youth Programmes: The organization feels that the youth are the potent manpower for the community. In this direction, the organization periodically conducts youth cultural programmes, motivational programmes, trainings and trying to involve them in various interventions that are aimed for the rural development. It is making youth clubs and making this clubs as the nodal point of interventions for the organization development programmes.
5. Plantation Programmes: Every year the organization is conducting plantation programme at various areas with special focus in urban areas. Every year the organization is attempting to plant more than 3000 saplings and helps the communities to maintain the already planted saplings. It is also encouraging social forestry at urban areas for environmental sustainability. In rural areas, it is encouraging kitchen gardens and adopting horticultural plantations.
6. SHG Formation and training: The organization is fostering the formation of Women SHGs at rural areas and imparting training to these SHGs for sustainability. The trainings are mostly on SHG management, accounts management and vocational trainings. Also attempts are being made for rejuvenating the dormant SHGs so that women are economically and socially empowered and ensure a collective bargaining.
7. Vocational Trainings: The organization is imparting vocational training on various trades such as stitching and embroidery, mushroom cultivation, handicrafts, bamboo crafts etc. These trainings are helping the villages to earn their livelihood during the off seasons. Also they are being helped by the organization for possible financial and marketing linkages for marketing their products.
8. De-addiction Programmes: The organization is periodically organizing de-addiction awareness and sensitizing the target group for de-addiction. These activities are IEC activities, counseling and seminars etc.
9. Awareness Programmes: The organization conducts awareness programmes through IEC activities on subjects such as – health awareness, de-addiction, sanitation, legal awareness, environmental awareness, AIDS awareness, awareness on specific issues etc.
10. Disability Rehabilitation: Under this programme the organization tries to ensure the equipment for physically challenged programmes by linking with various related agencies, and also works for the intervention of mentally re****ed children at rural and slum areas. It links the target groups with suitable agencies thereby ensuring their treatment and equipments.
11. Computer Education: The organization periodically conducts computer education programme for poor children and youth with the cooperation of local computer institutions.
