Celebrating Care, Love & Healing Together

As part of our monthly Family Session, persons with mental illness undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at our Bodhi Campus, Alagarkovil, Madurai, came together with their parents, caregivers, staff members, and invited guests for a meaningful day of interaction, encouragement, and healing. Conducted every month, the Family Session creates a supportive space where families connect, share experiences, learn from one another, and actively take part in the recovery journey of their loved ones.

The programme also serves as a platform to appreciate and recognise residents for their progress, positive behavioural changes, talents, and participation in rehabilitation activities, helping build confidence and motivation. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to share their experiences, challenges, and learnings, creating an atmosphere of emotional support, understanding, and hope for all families.

This month’s session became even more special with the celebration of Nurses Day, honouring the dedicated nurses who care for residents with compassion and commitment every day. Residents enthusiastically participated in songs, dance, storytelling, quiz activities, and cultural programmes, making the celebration joyful and lively.

Mother’s Day was also celebrated in an emotional manner by honouring mothers for their unconditional love, sacrifice, and continuous support throughout the healing journey of their children and family members.

We were honoured to have A. Karnan, Managing Director of Association for Rural Empowerment, as the Chief Guest, who appreciated the rehabilitation efforts of the Trust and encouraged families to continue supporting their loved ones with patience, dignity, and hope.

The session concluded with happiness, emotional bonding, and renewed confidence among residents and families — reminding us all that healing becomes stronger when families, caregivers, professionals, and communities come together with compassion.

From Grief to Gathering: Healing Begins When No One Grieves Alone

Su***de loss leaves families facing overwhelming grief, emotional trauma, social stigma, and economic uncertainty. Women are often among the most affected, carrying the burden of rebuilding their lives while caring for their children and families.

Project SPEAK, a joint initiative of M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF) and Mariwala Health Initiative, Mumbai, supports women affected by su***de loss through psychosocial care, emotional support, and community-based healing.

Guided by Dr. Nandini Murali, founder of SPEAK and a nationally recognised su***de prevention and postvention advocate, the programme creates safe spaces where survivors can heal, rebuild resilience, and regain hope with dignity.

Since 2022, Project SPEAK has reached over 695 women across rural communities in Madurai district, strengthening psychosocial support systems and pathways towards recovery.

MSCTRF also operates the Speak2Us Mental Health Helpline, supported by a dedicated team of trained volunteers, offering emotional support and guidance for individuals experiencing distress.

Celebrating 25 Years of Community Mental Health Service

The Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP) of M.S. Chellamuthu Trust & Research Foundation successfully conducted its 25th Annual Caregivers Meet on 28th April 2026 at Kottampatti, with the participation of around 350 caregivers and family members, serving rural communities.

The programme was graced by Chief Guests Ashwin Desai, Managing Director, A & T Video Networks Pvt. Ltd., Madurai, and Annamalai, Former Chief Bureau, The Hindu, who appreciated the initiative and the impact of community-based mental health care.

The event became a meaningful platform where family members shared powerful stories of transformation—highlighting how continuous treatment, care, and support have helped their loved ones recover and reintegrate into family and community life. Many also spoke about how the programme’s financial interventions have strengthened their livelihoods, bringing stability and renewed hope.

Community volunteers also shared their field experiences, highlighting the positive impact of their work in supporting persons with mental illness and reducing stigma.

As part of its ongoing monthly livelihood support initiative, ₹10,000 in revolving fund assistance was provided to six families during the event, promoting sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.

Launched in 2000, CMHP has served rural communities for over 25 years, delivering accessible, community-based mental health care through early identification, treatment, follow-up, social reintegration, and livelihood support. Through six free monthly camps across Madurai East, West, Natham, Kottampatti, Vadipatti, and Alanganallur blocks, it reaches around 250 rural individuals each month and has supported 4,424 persons with mental illness—reflecting its sustained impact rooted in care, dignity, community participation, and economic empowerment.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Andheri Hilfe, Germany, for their consistent and generous support to this initiative since 2000.

Together, we continue to build a community where mental health care is accessible, inclusive, and empowering.

Joining Hands in a Cherished Tradition

Yesterday, 10 of our trainees, who are persons recovering from mental illness , along with their parents and staff, came together in a meaningful activity to prepare Thamboola bags for the upcoming Meenakshi Thirukalyanam Festival at Meenakshi Amman Temple.

They successfully prepared 500 bags in two hours, showcasing teamwork, dedication, and growing confidence. It was heartening to see parents join in, with a few also volunteering to support vegetable cutting for the ongoing festival’s free food distribution, which serves over 2 lakh people.

The activity was hosted at Sethubathi Higher Secondary School, with lunch generously provided by the temple representatives. Our trainees were truly happy to contribute during this major festival—one of the most cherished highlights of Madurai.

Each bag reflected tradition while symbolizing inclusion, dignity, and meaningful community participation.

A special thanks to the temple management for providing this opportunity.

Vannangal 2026 – Celebrating Every Child, Every Ability

Marking three decades of inclusion, care, and transformation, Vannangal 2026 marked the 30th Annual Day of Aakaash Special School, a proud initiative of M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation.

On this special day, the stage came alive with joy, courage, and togetherness—as our Aakaash children performed not just on their own, but alongside their siblings, parents, and teachers. Every smile, every movement, and every moment spoke of love, acceptance, and growth.

From graceful yoga performances to vibrant cultural expressions, our children showed us that ability is not defined by limitations, but by opportunity, support, and belief. For many parents, it was a deeply emotional moment—watching their children shine with confidence, embraced by a community that stands with them every step of the way.

We were honoured to have Hon’ble Justice Thiru. R. Suresh Kumar, Judge of the Madras High Court, as our Chief Guest, who appreciated the Trust’s efforts in restoring dignity and mainstreaming persons with mental illness, along with the presence of other distinguished guests and well-wishers from various sectors, adding meaning and encouragement to the occasion.

Vannangal celebrates courage, togetherness, and the possibilities that unfold when every child is empowered.🥳

PSS Camp 2026 – Purpose, Collaboration & Transformation

Recovery in mental health goes beyond treatment — it requires the right environment, skills, and support to rebuild everyday life. With this understanding, a seven-day Psycho Social Skills (PSS) Camp 2026 was organised in the last week of March at our Bodhi Campus, Alagarkovil, Madurai, facilitated by Dr. Rajaram Subbian, an experienced international psychosocial consultant and Executive Director of BasicNeeds India, Bangalore, to support the recovery and well-being of our residents with mental illness undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in our campus.

While residents were already involved in various daily activities, this camp was designed to go beyond routine and transform these into a more structured, reflective, and therapeutic rehabilitation process. It created a space for residents to better understand their roles, build self-awareness, and move towards greater independence.

A key strength of the camp was the active participation of a selected multidisciplinary team of 25 staff, including social workers, nurses, psychologists, and caretakers working closely with 30 selected residents. This collaborative approach enabled a shift from routine care to a more person-centred and coordinated model of rehabilitation, while also strengthening teamwork and shared responsibility among staff.

The camp led to visible improvements in confidence and communication among residents, along with increased emotional expression and social interaction. Residents moved from simple participation to more meaningful engagement and responsibility. At the same time, staff developed a deeper understanding of their role in facilitating recovery, leading to more empathetic, inclusive, and holistic care practices. Overall, the camp strengthened trust, teamwork, and the quality of rehabilitation for both our residents and staff.

The camp reaffirmed that rehabilitation is not just about doing activities, but about enabling individuals to understand, grow, and move towards independent living with dignity.

💙 Together, we continue to build dignity, hope, and inclusive mental health care.

Remembering a Life of Grace and Compassion

With hearts filled with remembrance and gratitude, we came together on March 28, 2026, at the Bodhi Campus, Alagarkovil, to mark the first death anniversary of our beloved Periamma, Tmt. C. Sankaravadivoo Natchiar — Trustee of M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation and the beloved mother of our Founder, Dr. C. Ramasubramanian.

It was a deeply moving day as family members, friends, staff, and beneficiaries came together, not just to remember, but to relive the warmth, kindness, and love she shared so effortlessly. A tree was planted in her memory — a living symbol of the care, resilience, and grace she sowed in all of us, and which continues to grow.

We remember her with love, gratitude, and a sense of profound loss — yet also with the comfort that her light continues to shine through all that we do.
