Dear Teachers, Parents & Well-Wishers, of MBRS, Tuichawng.
As many of you may know, I have worked day and night for more than 13 years to establish this Buddhist Mission School. Through continuous effort, sacrifice, and dedication, I raised funds from well-wishers from distant places, connected with foreign supporters, and finally helped establish Mahabodhi Residential School (MBRS) in 2016.
In the early days, the journey was extremely challenging. Communication with donors was very difficult due to only 2G internet connectivity in our remote area. Still, I worked tirelessly—late nights and early mornings—sharing updates, explaining our vision, and building trust through online fundraising.
Through these efforts, we were able to construct the school building, hostel building, dining hall, and Buddhist temple. Everything that exists at MBRS today was built through my hard work, honesty, and dedication to Buddhist values.
However, despite all these sacrifices, I can no longer continue under constant pressure from a system controlled by misuse of authority and self-interest. At present, the mission and the school are controlled by one family (father and son). Over time, many former UTPM members, villagers, teachers, and well-wishers have become silent and disengaged, as they feel unheard and powerless.
With this background, I wish to inform you that I have voluntarily resigned from MBRS, by my own decision. This has been one of the most painful decisions of my life, but it is necessary for my peace of mind and conscience.
I have always worked with love and sincerity for your children, the teachers, the staff, and the growth of MBRS. I now feel it is my moral responsibility to share the truth with you.
*Reasons for My Resignation*
1. Lack of transparent leadership :
The Ultimate Truth Preaching Mission (UTPM), established in 1999, has had only one president till today, without any democratic process or election. The Buddha encouraged collective decision-making, not lifelong authority.
2. Concentration of power in one family :
MBRS, established in 2016, is being run by one family. The father holds multiple governing roles, and the son manages both academic and financial matters. Such concentration of power creates imbalance and suffering.
3. No functioning School Management Committee (SMC) :
Government guidelines give priority to schools managed by a proper SMC. However, MBRS does not have a functioning SMC.
4. No active role of the cashier :
The appointed cashier, Mr. Dhaneswar Chakma, has no active role in financial management. All financial matters are handled by the father and son. When I politely requested audit reports, I received no clear or respectful response.
5. No monthly audit of the hostel :
In several meetings, it was clearly resolved that hostel accounts must be audited every month. Despite repeated resolutions, no regular monthly audit has been conducted, raising serious concerns about transparency and accountability.
6. Land donor’s wishes ignored :
Mr. Nihar Kanti Chakma, former MLA, generously donated land for MBRS with the clear wish that the school be run by a committee, not by a single family. This wish has not been respected.
7. Appointments without consultation :
Teachers and wardens are appointed by the father and son without consultation or approval of committee or SMC members.
8. Resignation of original executive members :
Almost all original executive members resigned due to misuse of authority. When many sincere and capable people step away, it is a serious warning sign.
9. Multiple key positions held by one family :
At present, one family holds almost all major positions in the mission and the school. The father serves as President of UTPM, Chairman of the School Management Committee, and Director of MBRS. The son serves as Principal of MBRS and also acts as the Cashier of MBRS. Concentrating so many key responsibilities within one family goes against shared responsibility and transparency.
10. Private business linked to the school :
Two shops are being run under the control of the same father and son—one inside the school campus and another in the village. The income and profits from these shops are kept personally and are not deposited into the school or hostel funds, raising serious concerns about conflict of interest.
11. Loss of donor confidence :
Many overseas donors have clearly stated that they cannot continue their support until transparent and ethical management is restored.
12. Past misleading information :
Earlier, I informed donors and officials that MBRS was running properly. Over time, I realized this was not fully true, and this deeply troubled my conscience.
13. Concern for teachers, staff, and students :
I cannot continue in a system where teachers and staff work under pressure, transparency is missing, and parents are not aware of the real situation.
14. The vision behind establishing the school : was to teach Dhamma to underprivileged students. However, this vision is not being fulfilled, as the father and son are not serious about Dhamma; their primary focus appears to be increasing student enrollment for higher income.
15. The son is busy drinking with the wardens, but the father does not take any action. Wine parties are often organized on the school premises, which is completely inappropriate for any educational institution, especially a religious center.
16. During the VCP election, the son told Uttam Chakma to campaign by promising that if anyone voted for the MNF party, he would provide free education for the voters’ children at Mahabodhi Residential School
17. Although the son is the principal, he lacks knowledge and even struggles with English writing; he cannot write a sentence correctly, yet he is ruling the institution.
Final Words :
I leave MBRS with deep sorrow and pain, not because I do not love this school or its children, but because I cannot remain silent while the truth is hidden.
My sincere hope is that parents and well-wishers will understand the reality and work together for transparency, fairness, and proper governance, so that MBRS can truly flourish for the benefit of our children and community.
I would also like to clearly state that I am willing to continue my service and rejoin MBRS if genuine reforms take place. If the father and son step down from their current positions, and if all responsibilities are handed over to a properly functioning and independent Management Committee, I am ready to return and work again with full dedication for the future of MBRS.
My intention has never been personal conflict. My only aim is to protect the values of Buddhism, the trust of donors, and the future of our children.
I pray for the well-being of all students, teachers, and staff, and I leave with love, concern, and hope for positive change at MBRS.
With deep respect and sadness,
