Amazing Environmental Leadership training camp by EcoSikh in Washington - ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਯੂਥ ਕੈਂਪ 1st day started with ardas and reflection on the spiritual message of Gurbani. Campers learned a new shabad “Dekh Phool Phool phuley”, a spiritual hymn by Guru Arjan Dev ji, the 5th Sikh Guru which inspires humans to rise above ego and greed to appreciate nature and have reverence towards this gift of the Creator.

Campers then learned about EcoSikh and its environmental work since inception in 2009 from its founder Dr. Rajwant Singh. The Sikh Environment Day, Guru Nanak Sacred Forests, Green Gurdwara Campaign, Guru Granth Sahib Bagh and now sacred fauna mission of saving Baaj. The camp took place at Guru Gobind Singh Foundation - Sikh Spiritual Center gurdwara in Maryland.

Campers also had hands on experience of gardening and plant caring led by Meenu Nandra and helped by Jasper Singh Sohal.

Campers had a great interaction with Sacred Grounds representative Naomi Edelson who talked about the native trees and its importance in reducing environmental disasters and also in saving biodiversity.

Campers then had a fun activity of skit preparation based on environment theme led by Pooja Chawla. A professional trainer led the effort to instill confidence among kids and created a sense of bonding among groups.

Then came jeopardy game based on Sikh principles on nature and environmental issues. Kids loved the entire experience and sense of competition among groups.

Last item was a presentation on Bees and their role in our food production and saving environment by Zoya Sood. They had a hands on experience to understand the concept.

Counselors who are high school students helped in the entire process and keeping kids engaged.

This effort is led by EcoSikh board members Dr Gunpreet Kaur, Meenu Nandra, Ms. Manpreet Singh and Preeti Bajwa.

Bhai Mandeep Singh and Bhupinder Singh taught the shabad with lot of patience.

ਇਸ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਬਾਗ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਜੀਵੰਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। 🌿

Another Guru Nanak Sacred Forest with 735 native trees is now growing in Khairabad, Ropar.
