📉 When “Perfect” Curves Meet Imperfect Humans

For decades, economics students have been taught the elegance of perfect supply and demand - smooth curves, rational actors, tidy equilibria.

But real life has never looked like the textbook.

Human behavior is messy. Stress is cumulative. Burnout is embodied.
And economies don’t exist in isolation from food systems, health systems, or planetary limits.

At the same time, fear-based narratives dominate public discourse:
• government debt crises
• de-dollarization
• a shifting global order
• rising war budgets alongside shrinking welfare commitments

The promise of perpetual equilibrium begins to resemble a fairytale - one with no recessions, no exhaustion, and no human cost.

This is why heterodox economists like .stevekeen Prof. Steve Keen challenge the foundations of neoclassical thinking - questioning equilibrium, exposing the role of private debt, and insisting that real economies must account for instability, power, and lived human experience.

Because when systems are built on abstract perfection rather than reality, burnout isn’t a bug.

It’s the outcome.

Watch this YouTube video of JIVINITI’s founder in conversation with Prof. Keen’s to get his perspective on government debt and also, watch him model it out in very practical terms using his amazing framework Ravel.

🔥💚 Burnout is real. Resilience is possible. Hope is already in motion.

We’re excited to share that our Founder & President, Nivi Jaswal-Wirtjes, was recently interviewed by Authority Magazine. 🌍✨

In this feature, Nivi highlights why burnout is not just a personal struggle — it’s also a planetary one — and how resilience can be the bridge between the two.

From the GAIA Study to our feature-length documentary Third Degree Burnout — A Survivor’s Guide, The Virsa Foundation’s work reframes burnout not as collapse, but as an invitation:
🌱 To choose differently
🌱 To recover deeply
🌱 To put hope in action

Every small step — each meal, each pause for rest, each act of care — becomes a seed of resilience for ourselves and for the planet we call home.

🚨 New Guest Post in VEGCONOMIST 🚨

Burnout, Buy-In & the Next-Gen Plant-Based Consumer

We are honored to share our founder ’s latest piece published by Vegconomist - a deep dive into what JIVINITI Research’s GAIA Study reveals about the future of plant-based consumption, especially among those recovering from ever-increasing motley of infectious disease and navigating personal burnout.

We didn’t just stop at nutritional outcomes. Our segmentation work uncovered rich behavioral insights about how different people respond to crisis - emotionally, physically, and psychologically. From agency and hope to fatigue and frustration, this research paints a timely portrait of the next-generation consumer.

🙏🏽 Heartfelt thanks to Kandice Vincent Ⓥ🌱 from the Vegconomist Global Newsdesk for their generous invitation and thoughtful collaboration. Your platform continues to elevate critical conversations on health, sustainability, and systems change.

🧠 Burnout, Ultra-Processed Foods & the Hidden Role of Diet

Honored to see our GAIA Study featured in by journalist Ani Freedman. The article explores how everyday dietary choices - especially the rise of ultra-processed foods - could be silently fueling stress, anxiety, and burnout.

The GAIA Study, conducted by JIVINITI Research with Ipsos Public Affairs, looked at over 14,000 adults, linking food systems, mental health, and resilience. Findings show people following a Whole Food Plant-Based (WFPB) diet reported milder COVID-19 cases, fewer medical interventions, and higher mental well-being than those on a Standard American Diet.

This is not just about food. It’s about how we recover, how we cope - and how we thrive.

Burnout is more than personal - it’s planetary. And before the screen lights up, we’re setting the stage with a powerful conversation.

We’re hosting a private pre-release screening of Third Degree Burnout – A Survivor’s Guide this Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Coolidge Corner Theatre () in Brookline, MA. To open the morning, we’ll be holding a 30-minute pre-screening panel:

“Burnout Unpacked: What’s Planetary is Personal”

This intimate dialogue will feature:

🌱John Morales, Emmy-winning meteorologist, atmospheric scientist and our film’s narrator, reflecting on the emotional toll of climate storytelling ()

🌱Sahar Ahmed, chef and nonprofit founder, speaking to burnout in food systems, food service and restaurant sector ()

🌱Priya Merchia, our Gen Z voice, a recent graduate in Food Systems & Social Innovation and a brilliant product developer, on navigating future uncertainty and identity - and how Late Millennials and Gen Z are demanding a cultural shift in how evidence based content is presented for impact 💥 ()

Moderated by the amazing Sean Wirtjes (), Co Executive Producer of our film, this panel invites us to consider burnout not just as an individual struggle - but as part of a larger web of systemic, generational, and ecological pressures.

😇😎🤩 We have only two seats available for anyone in the area who’d love to join this invite-only special gathering. Please DM us if you’re interested - we’d be happy to share details 🎫 🎫
