Despite being a forerunner in developmental scenario, India still lags behind most nations when it comes to rural healthcare facilities. In a recent report by UNDP, India ranks 130th in Human Development Index. To counter such low healthcare facilities to marginalized communities and to enable the local youth as self-sustaining entrepreneurs B-ABLE started with their Eye-Mitra Initiative which aims on training local youth as Eye-Mitra Opticians to provide basic optometrist services at an arm’s distance. This not only provides eye-care at affordable prices but also enables the youth to sustain their lives with a business model.
