On the 2nd of May 2026, a dog rescued from Ambalamukku, Trivandrum, was taken by our Street Dog Watch Association for treatment of tumors on its muzzle. We thought we were taking a suffering animal for healing.
But what the X-rays revealed left us shocked, heartbroken and furious.
Multiple pellets lodged inside his body.
Let that sink in.
Someone looked at a helpless, voiceless animal, one that could neither speak, complain, nor defend itself and chose violence. Someone aimed, fired, and walked away, while this innocent creature continued to live with pain, buried deep inside his body.
A street dog does not know cruelty the way humans do. It waits near our homes. It wags its tail at strangers. It trusts human hands, even after hunger, fear, and rejection. It suffers quietly. It loves freely.
And yet, someone repaid that trust with bullets.
What kind of darkness enters a human heart to hurt a creature whose only crime was being helpless?
This is not just cruelty to an animal. This is a stain on our humanity.
He did not deserve pellets in his body.
He deserved kindness.
He deserved safety.
He deserved a life free from fear.
If we become silent in the face of such cruelty, what kind of people are we becoming?
Please, do not look away. If you see suffering, help. If you witness cruelty, speak. Silence protects cruelty.
We condemn this barbaric act with grief, anger, and outrage, and we will continue to stand for those who cannot stand for themselves.
