Flower cultivation brings confidence and inspiration for others

Phulpadar is a small village situated in Kotia GP under Pottangi block in which Radha Tadingi lives with her family. Their existing sources of income isn't sufficient enough to meet various basic necessities. Being the part of the Village Development Committee, she used to participate in the meetings where she learned about Kamomaila flower cultivation which may help for raising additional income. Understanding her interest, the team members provided her with training on the same which includes land preparation, nursery raise with management, organic input preparation, watering method along with supply of flower seeds and technical guidance.

With care and regular monitoring, the cultivation showed good results. As a result, she earned good amount in returns which definitely boost her confidence towards the cultivation in one hand and brought several positive changes in her life on the other. Now, she is a source of inspiration for other farmers for making such attempts and get benefitted.

Cross learning program

Ekta has been working in the five districts of Odisha through the project SAMAHITA supported by European Union & Handicap International for the promotion of CSOs. The team members working in Puri district in the project have visited some of the operational areas of Koraput district as part of cross learning from each other. They visited Kotia GP under Pottangi block, Dasmantpur block as well as Koraput to know more about the best practices adopted by the CSO members along with the livelihood initiatives. The team also visited the Surakhya center at Koraput to know more about the works for the women living with mental illness. It was really a great learning opportunity for the team members being the part of the project. We give our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to RK Bhai for sparing his qualitative times, guidance and support during this learning visit.
