Alzheimer's And Related Disorders Society of India, Calcutta Chapter ARDSI, Calcutta Chapter is a registered Society that provides care & support for people with dementia

Alzheimer’s And Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) Calcutta Chapter is a registered NGO under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act. This organization provides care and support for people with Dementia and their families. There are estimated 55 million people worldwide with dementia and these figures are projected to reach 139 million by the year 2050. Moreover, 68 per cent of this 13

9 million old people will be in the developing countries like India. With rapidly changing demographic pattern, it is therefore mandatory that dementia should be a national health priority and the funding of dementia research should form an essential part of the society’s response to the dementia epidemic. The limitations of finances remain perpetual and formidable obstacles for our society. We will appreciate if you could support the urgent cause of tackling dementia through our research work. Caring for this affected population is a joint effort of all those who can still reason and remember. We truly believe you share the same thought and will join us in our mission.

ARDSI Calcutta was delighted to join the 14th Anniversary celebrations and Pride Month Pop-Up organized by Varta Trust Kolkata.
Our Secretary had the opportunity to visit the vibrant event, which celebrated diversity, inclusion, and the strength of community. The occasion also brought back memories of an earlier collaboration between ARDSI Calcutta and Varta Trust to raise awareness about dementia —an important step towards ensuring that conversations around brain health, ageing, and dementia are inclusive of all.
As we celebrate Pride Month, we reaffirm our commitment to creating greater awareness, understanding, and support for every individual living with dementia and their families, irrespective of gender identity or background.
Congratulations to Varta Trust on 14 years of meaningful work and advocacy. We look forward to many more opportunities to work together towards building a more inclusive and dementia-aware society.

Dementia care cannot be fully understood through textbooks alone.

Participation in practical care allows nursing students to understand that persons living with dementia are not merely “patients,” but individuals with emotions, histories, preferences and abilities.

This exposure also encourages nursing students to see caregiving not merely as a duty, but as a meaningful human connection.

Grateful to B M Birla Nursing College for their visit.
