šŸŖ”āœØ This Diwali, Let Every Being Breathe Easy āœØšŸŖ”

Diwali lights up our streets — but for many animals, it’s a night of fear.
The same fireworks that dazzle us can terrify dogs, cats, birds, and other street-dwelling beings who share our neighborhoods.
They run, hide, and tremble — often injured or lost in the chaos.

This year, let’s celebrate a gentler kind of light.
🌼 Choose quiet, smoke-free ways to celebrate.
🌼 Keep food and water out for community animals.
🌼 Check under cars and corners before lighting diyas or crackers.
🌼 Remind others: joy doesn’t have to come at someone else’s pain.

Let’s make this Diwali safe for everyone who calls our streets home.
Because compassion shines brighter than any firework.

šŸ’› Wishing peace and kindness to all from šŸ’›

ā˜”šŸ¶šŸ± Monsoon Season = More Fleas & Ticks – Let’s Look Out for Our Community Dogs and Cats 🧔

The rains bring relief from the heat—but also create the perfect environment for fleas and ticks to thrive. For free-roaming dogs and cats, this can mean constant scratching, skin infections, and even life-threatening diseases like tick fever.

The good news? A few low-cost treatments can make a huge difference:

🧓 Fiprofort Plus (₹150–200)
– Easy-to-use spot-on for dogs and cats. Apply once a month between the shoulders while the animal is relaxed or eating.

šŸ’Ø Protektor Spray (Cipla) (₹300)
– Spray lightly on the back, neck, and legs. Offers protection for up to 2 weeks. Useful for animals that don’t allow direct handling—just a quick spray while feeding.

🧔 Even helping a few animals in your lane or colony can reduce overall parasite load and prevent disease from spreading. No act is too small.

Thank you to everyone who feeds, cares for, and protects community animals—rain or shine. You’re making the monsoons safer and more comfortable for them.

- We conducted a small food drive (along with basic deworming) for our community animals, thanks to a volunteer who donated funds to celebrate her late mother’s birthday yesterday.

We fed close to 80 animals and administered at least 30+ dewormers.

Taking Care of a Young Kitten? Here’s What You Need to Know!

Found a kitten who’s a few weeks old? Here’s a quick guide to keeping them healthy and safe as they grow:

1. Deworming:
Start deworming at 2 weeks of age, then repeat every 2 weeks until 8–12 weeks old. This helps get rid of roundworms and hookworms, which are very common in young kittens. We usually use pyrantel pamoate first.

2. Vaccines:
First vaccine at 6–8 weeks old – this is a FVRCP shot (protects against panleukopenia, herpesvirus, calicivirus). Boosters every 3–4 weeks until about 16 weeks of age. Rabies vaccine comes at 12–16 weeks, depending on local laws.

3. Fleas?
Many kittens are born with fleas, especially in outdoor or street settings. For babies under 8 weeks, we use a flea comb and mild dish soap baths. Over 8 weeks, revolution or frontline or firponil (kitten-safe products only!) can be used.

4. Nutrition:
Young kittens need kitten-specific food—more calories, protein, and nutrients for growing bodies. Under 4 weeks? They’ll need kitten formula (not cow’s milk!). 4–5 weeks and up can start mushy wet food.

5. Love + Warmth:
Kittens can’t regulate temperature well until they’re older—keep them warm, dry, and safe. Cuddles help too.

6. When in Doubt, Reach Out:
Tag us, message us —we’re here to help.

Every healthy adult cat started out as a cared-for kitten. You’re doing something amazing.

Vaccination Drive Update: Park Circus

This week, our team went into the neighborhoods in and around Park Circus and vaccinated 55 dogs and cats against deadly but preventable diseases. We also provided urgent care to a patient in need.

Each time we go into a community, we’re reminded of how much can be done with just a little support.

Consider donating just ₹50 at www.likeadog.org. It’s enough to provide essential vaccines to dogs and cats—and it helps us build a healthier population with fewer patients suffering from preventable infectious diseases.

Every rupee counts. Every life matters.

Too many times, we arrive too late. A cat foaming at the mouth. A dog struggling to breathe. The quiet signs of intentional poisoning.
It’s painful. It’s wrong. But it’s also something we can prevent—together.

Many people still see community animals as a nuisance. Barking, fear, territorial behavior—it’s not personal. But it becomes personal when fear turns into cruelty.

Caregivers, your role is powerful.
You can change how your community feels about the animals who live there.

Here’s how:
• Talk to neighbors—explain who these animals are, their names, their habits, and that they’re vaccinated and sterilized.
• Clean up feeding areas—nobody likes a mess, and it gives people an excuse to complain.
• Defuse tension—be present, be kind, and help mediate when someone’s upset.
• Educate—put up signs or talk to local kids about being kind to animals.
• Make allies—get the security guard, shopkeeper, or schoolteacher on your side.

The more human they feel to others, the less likely they are to be harmed.

Let’s work for a world where every street animal is known, loved, and protected.

March is Veterinary Toxicity Awareness Month, and we’re spreading the word about a hidden danger to Kolkata’s street dogs and cats: rodenticide poisoning.

These poisons are used to kill rats—but they can kill animals too.

Types of Rodenticides & What You Might See:
1. Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): bleeding, bruising, collapse
2. Bromethalin: tremors, seizures, paralysis
3. Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3): vomiting, thirst, kidney failure
4. Zinc Phosphide: vomiting (rotten fish smell), gasping, sudden death

What to Do:
• Rush to a vet immediately
• Bring the packaging if known
• Emergency care may include charcoal, vitamin K1, fluids, seizure meds

This is an emergency. Minutes matter.
Spread the word. Save a life.

šŸŒžšŸ’¦ Summer & Water: Do Your Part for Community Animals! šŸ’™šŸ¶šŸ±

As temperatures rise, let’s remember that our street dogs and cats need us! 🐾 Providing fresh water and shade can make a world of difference for them during the summer.

āœ… Refill water bowls daily – Place clean water in safe spots.
āœ… Create shaded rest areas – Use cloths, cardboard, or trees for shade.
āœ… Encourage others – Spread awareness in your community!

Every little act of kindness counts. Let’s keep our community animals hydrated, happy, and safe! 🌿🐾

Tag us and show how you’re helping this summer! 🧔
