Roopkatha Foundation is working in the village of Kaikala near Tarakeswar in Haripal Block of Hooghly district of West Bengal, India since April 2013. Here Roopkatha is running a resource center for underprivileged and special needs children, where Roopkatha volunteers work to give the stimulation in all aspect of development to these children that are otherwise hard to get in their homes or schoo
ls. For these volunteers and others, Roopkatha runs vocational centers where they are professionally trained in basic computer, tailoring and carpentry for the opportunity of a proud livelihood. Roopkatha looks forward to replicate this in many more villages of West Bengal where the underprivileged children and youths will be served and more fairy tales will be created. The Organization:
Roopkatha Foundation was registered under West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 in December, 2012 as kasba Roopkatha Foundation and the registration number is S/1L/99443 of 2012 – 2013. It has a 9-member Governing Body comprising people with experience in the field of special needs. It’s first Project, ‘Roopkatha-Chetona collaborative programs’, started at Kaikala village under Haripal block in Hooghly district of West Bengal in April 2013. These programs aim to use the trained volunteers of Kaikala Chetana to create inclusive training programs for underprivileged village children with special needs. Its current programs at Kaikala Project include: (1) an Inclusive Learning Center for the children; (2) Vocation Training on Tailoring and Carpentry; (3) Computer Literacy Program and (4) Reach Out Their Homes Program. A few new programs are in the pipeline at Kaikala Project. A second Project is proposed to be launched at Shantiniketan. The present source of funds is small donations from friends, well-wishers and by Governing Body members.
