Google is exploring investments in India across artificial intelligence infrastructure, server manufacturing, and drone production, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw. The announcement follows a meeting between government officials and Google executives, signalling the company’s potential expansion beyond cloud services, AI skilling, and startup ecosystem initiatives in the country.

The development comes shortly after Google Cloud announced plans to invest nearly $15 billion between 2026 and 2030 to establish a major AI hub in Visakhapatnam, including large-scale data centre operations, fibre infrastructure, and AI compute capacity. Google has also expanded its India-focused AI ecosystem programmes through accelerator initiatives supporting areas such as multimodal AI, sovereign AI, robotics, and manufacturing technologies.

If pursued, drone manufacturing would mark Google’s first direct entry into India’s UAV production ecosystem, although no investment timelines or financial details have been disclosed yet. Industry observers believe Google’s expertise in AI, software systems, and sensor integration could strengthen autonomous navigation, aerial mapping, and intelligent drone applications under India’s broader Make in India and self-reliance initiatives.

Students of AMU’s Polytechnic have developed “Climatron 1A,” a drone-based environmental monitoring system designed to assess air quality and detect hazardous gases in inaccessible or high-risk areas. The project was created by final-year Diploma students of Electronics and Communication Engineering — Kamran Firdous, Mohammad Ali, Mohd Shahzeb, Sohaib Akhtar, and Mohd Monish — under the mentorship of Dr Tanveer Hasan and Prof Mujeeb Ahmad Ansari, with technical guidance from alumni Saubaan Ahmad Siddiqui and Anas Khan.

The drone is equipped with multiple sensors to monitor Air Quality Index (AQI), greenhouse gases, hazardous and flammable gases, temperature, and air pressure. It transmits real-time environmental data to mobile devices every two seconds, along with autonomous mission capability and instant gas spike alerts. Developed as a low-cost, portable solution, “Climatron 1A” is intended for deployment in disaster-hit zones, mining areas, and gas leak-prone environments. The project was showcased at the Electronics Engineering Section exhibition, received appreciation from Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan, and was awarded Best Project Prize. The team now plans to enhance the system with advanced sensors, a customised ground control station app, and AI-based monitoring features for improved accuracy.

Bengaluru-based SSS Defence has delivered its T-12 semi-automatic shotguns to the Indian Army’s Northern Command, strengthening close-range counter-drone capabilities along sensitive border regions. The T-12 has been showcased at the Northtech Symposium 2026 in Prayagraj and reflects the growing focus on cost-effective solutions against low-flying FPV drones and unmanned aerial threats.

The 12-gauge shotgun features a 20-inch nitride-treated barrel, high-strength 7075-T6 aluminium receivers, detachable five- and ten-round magazines, and a full-length Picatinny rail for mounting optics and thermal sights. Weighing around 3.8 kg, the T-12 successfully neutralised drone targets at distances of nearly 90 metres during field evaluations, demonstrating its effectiveness in last-mile aerial defence operations.

The induction aligns with evolving global battlefield trends, in which shotguns are increasingly used for counter-drone operations due to their higher probability of hit against small, fast-moving aerial targets. SSS Defence stated that the T-12 also shares components with its existing fi****ms portfolio, helping simplify maintenance, logistics, and training requirements for Indian military units operating in challenging environments.

India’s indigenous Ghatak UCAV is steadily emerging as a major force multiplier for the Indian Air Force, with plans reportedly underway for squadron-level induction focused on deep strike, SEAD, and high-risk pe*******on missions. Developed by DRDO’s ADE, the stealth flying-wing platform is designed to operate independently or alongside manned fighters through Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUMT), expanding the combat reach of platforms like Tejas MkII while also supporting legacy aircraft via ground-controlled operations. The concept reflects a major doctrinal shift toward autonomous combat operations in contested airspace.

The 13-ton class stealth UCAV is expected to feature low-observable design architecture, internal weapon bays, precision-guided strike capability, and autonomous mission ex*****on for operations against heavily defended targets. Reports suggest the IAF intends to integrate multiple Ghatak UCAVs within fighter squadrons, enabling coordinated manned-unmanned strike packages for suppression and destruction of enemy air defence systems. As global air forces increasingly move toward stealth-enabled unmanned warfare, the Ghatak program signals India’s growing emphasis on indigenous autonomous combat aviation and next-generation aerial strike capability.

China’s researchers have unveiled the TJ-FlyingFish, a lightweight amphibious drone capable of operating both in the air and underwater. Weighing just 1.6 kilograms, the drone features a four-rotor design that enables smooth transitions between aerial flight and underwater navigation, marking a significant step forward in multi-environment unmanned systems technology.

The TJ-FlyingFish can dive up to 10 feet underwater, travel at speeds of two meters per second, and remain submerged for up to 40 minutes. In aerial mode, the drone can hover for around six minutes per battery charge. Experts believe such hybrid platforms could play an important role in future search-and-rescue operations, marine research, offshore infrastructure inspection, and other specialized maritime missions.

Ahmedabad-based Bajrang UAV has successfully tested its PX4P2300 heavy-lift cargo drone at Shinkula Top in Ladakh, demonstrating the platform’s ability to operate under extreme high altitude conditions. Conducted at nearly 16,400 feet above sea level, the trial validated the drone’s capability to carry a 30 kg payload for around 20 minutes despite strong winds, freezing temperatures, and low oxygen levels.

The company stated that the mission involved significant technical challenges, particularly in tuning the drone’s PID control systems for stable performance in thin air and harsh weather conditions. Designed for logistics and tactical support missions, the PX4P2300 is expected to support the transportation of medicines, communication equipment, emergency supplies, and critical materials to remote border regions and mountainous terrain.

Founded in 2023 by Umang Joshi, Bajrang UAV focuses on indigenous unmanned systems for military, industrial, and surveillance applications, including thermal imaging and tactical reconnaissance platforms. The successful Ladakh trial highlights the growing maturity of India’s drone ecosystem and aligns with the country’s broader push towards self-reliance in defence technology and high-performance unmanned systems.

India’s Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) has revealed a new concept for high-speed stealth swarm drones designed for ISR and kamikaze strike missions. Inspired by the SWiFT UCAV program, these attritable drones are being developed as low-cost, expendable unmanned systems capable of operating in contested airspace with reduced radar visibility and autonomous swarm coordination. The platform reportedly combines stealth shaping, high subsonic performance, inflight retargeting, and modular payload integration to support future battlefield operations.

The drones are expected to perform coordinated swarm missions with minimal human intervention, enabling real-time data sharing, adaptive targeting, and saturation attacks against enemy air defence systems. With a focus on scalability and mass production, ADE’s latest development highlights India’s growing emphasis on indigenous autonomous combat systems and next-generation unmanned warfare capabilities. The project reflects a significant evolution in India’s defence drone ecosystem, particularly in the fields of AI-enabled swarm warfare, stealth UAV design, and precision strike operations.
