A heartwarming thank you to Shri. Ghosh, VC of Visva Bharati University.

We at Save Cows India Charitable Trust extend our heartfelt appreciation to the entire team of Visva-Bharati University for establishing a cowshed to shelter stray cows on campus.

This thoughtful initiative not only ensures food, water and care for unattended cattle, but also integrates sustainability through biogas and campus cleanliness. It reflects responsible governance, environmental consciousness and compassionate leadership.

When educational institutions lead with empathy, society follows.

We look forward to supporting and collaborating in strengthening such humane and sustainable models across India.

🌿 Kharagpur Diaries | A Visit Worth Experiencing 🌿
Recently, I visited Gopali Ashram, Salua (Kharagpur)—a place where compassion, culture, and consciousness come together beautifully.

🐄 The ashram lovingly shelters ~65 Indian breed cows and bulls, cared for with dignity and devotion.
👁️ It also runs a charitable eye hospital and a homeopathy clinic, serving the local community.
📚 A small school for underprivileged children, combined with organic farming, reflects true holistic living.

🕉️ Surrounded by greenery and silence, the ashram offers a serene environment ideal for deep meditation, especially inside the sacred Shiva Temple.

Near the ashram is another meditation centre by https://heartfulness.org/

Celebrating Gopashtami — 29-30 Oct 2025

Dear friends & family,
Today is the auspicious festival of Gopashtami, from 29 Oct (morning) to 30 Oct (morning).

Let’s reflect on its deeper significance and how we can honour it meaningfully.

What is Gopashtami?

Gopashtami is observed on the 8th lunar day (Ashtami) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartika.

It commemorates the moment when Krishna, under his father Nanda Maharaja, began herding the cows of Vrindavan — marking his responsibility as a protector of the cows. It celebrates the sacred bond between the cow ( “gau” ) and the divine — the cow recognised in Hindu tradition as a symbol of selfless service, sustenance and motherly care.

Why is it important for us?

The festival invites us to recognise that caring for nature and its creatures isn’t just symbolic — it is part of our spiritual and communal responsibility. As one article puts it: “The main aim of Gopashtami is to protect cows and provide service (seva) for them.”

By honouring something as humble yet vital as the cow — which gives milk, nurtures life, supports rural livelihoods — we align with a more grounded, respectful relationship with the Earth and all her beings.

In the metaphoric sense (and very relevant to your book and planetary-Ayurveda work), it reminds us: when we restore a respectful relationship with the “other” in nature (animals, plants, elements) the whole body-planet heals.

Pls take time to read these very informative books on Indian Breed of Cows.
